MATILDA is a great story with great characters, so it only makes sense that a musical would be its next iteration. Though the show closed on Broadway on January 1, 2017, the national tour still goes strong and now appears at the Dr. Philips Center.

Orchestras can now present the 1990s cult classic movie, Matilda, live in concert, thanks to International Management Group (IMG). The score, composed by the virtuosic David Newman, will be played in sync to an HD projection of the film for audiences all over the country.

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) announced today the winners of the 299h annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers that took place on the evening of January 27 at the Wortham Theater Center's Cullen Theater. For the first time, the Concert of Arias was streamed live on Facebook, and viewers were able to cast their votes for an Online Viewers' Choice Award. The winner was announced during the second portion of the program, along with the other winners.

Houston Grand Opera expands its commitment to broadening the audience for opera with a 2017-18 season that includes the first presentations of Leonard Bernstein's classic musical West Side Story by a major American opera house and the world premiere of composer Ricky Ian Gordon and librettist Royce Vavrek's holiday opera The House without a Christmas Tree. HGO will present its first performances in a quarter century of two iconic works: Richard Strauss's revenge-filled Elektra with virtuoso sopranoChristine Goerke in the tempestuous title role and 2016 Richard Tucker Award-winner and HGO Studio alumna Tamara Wilson in her role debut as Chrysothemis, under the baton of HGO Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers; and Bellini's grand-scale tragedy Norma showcasing the debut of stellar dramatic soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska in the notoriously difficult title role, with 2015 Tucker winner and HGO Studio alumna Jamie Barton as Adalgisa.

North Shore Animal League America, the world's largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, will hold its annual Celebrity Gala on Today, November 18th at 7:00 pm at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City. A stellar line up of attendees from all sectors of New York's animal-loving community are expected. Actress/comedienne Pam Stone will host the evening which will be highlighted by Bill Abbott, President & CEO of Crown Media Family Networks honored with the Crystal Collar Award. Three NY Metro area Mutt-i-grees Curriculum® Classroom Canines will also be honored. Musical guest and renowned animal activist Belinda Carlisle will complete the memorable evening with a musical performance.
