A timeless story of hope, redemption and the magic of the holiday season, Milwaukee Repertory Theater's adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel A Christmas Carol has been a Milwaukee tradition for over 40 years, playing to over 1.5 million people. In line with Milwaukee Rep's mission to ignite positive change in the Milwaukee community and the enduring message of this holiday mainstay, we are pleased to announce the recipients of Milwaukee Rep's A Christmas Carol Families Program and Mpact Ticket Program for 2019.

National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) Board Chair Sarah Arison announced today that jazz trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard (1980 YoungArts Winner in Classical Music) and conceptual artist Teresita Fernández will be honored with Arison Awards at the organization's annual Backyard Ball, presented by fine jeweler Harry Winston, on Saturday, January 11, 2020 in Miami. The evening will celebrate Blanchard's and Fernández's vital contributions to the arts alongside the achievements of the 2020 YoungArts award winners, the nation's most accomplished young artists in the literary, visual and performing arts.

The National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) is proud to announce new creative and professional development opportunities for its network of 20,000 alumni—exceptionally talented artists across the visual, literary and performing arts. Additionally, YoungArts announces that Yusha-Marie Sorzano (2000 Young Arts Winner in Dance) has been named the 2019 Dance Artist in Residence at the YoungArts Campus and Lee Pivnik (2014 YoungArts Winner in Visual Arts) is the next Bay Parc Apartments Resident Artist.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater announces the return of the popular One Day Sale for the hit adaptation of the holiday favorite A Christmas Carol on Monday, July 22. 

Venetia Stifler, executive and artistic director of the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, on behalf of the 2019 Ruth Page Award Committee, awarded the 2019 Ruth Page Awards to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and its Artistic Director Robert Battle and Chicago Dance History Project and its Artistic and Executive Director Jenai Cutcher. The special event took place Friday, March 8 before the sold-out performance of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater celebrating its 60th anniversary as a company and the 50th anniversary of performing at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 E. Ida B. Wells Dr.

On Saturday, January 12, 2019, the National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) will honor prolific choreographer and bold visionary Camille A. Brown (1997 YoungArts Winner in Dance & U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts), and singular interdisciplinary designers Simon and Nikolai Haas of The Haas Brothers, with the 2019 Arison Alumni Award and Arison Award, respectively.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater commemorates the tradition of A Christmas Carol with a series of special events and guest appearances. The 17th annual Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, revealed its feature film lineup championing the discovery of emerging voices and celebrating new work from established filmmaking talent. To close the Festival, Tribeca will World Premiere The Fourth Estate, from Oscar®-nominated director Liz Garbus, which follows The New York Times' coverage of the Trump administration's first year. The Centerpiece Gala will be the World Premiere of Drake Doremus' sci-fi romance Zoe starring Ewan McGregor, Lea Seydoux, Rashida Jones, and Theo James. The internationally renowned Lar Lubovitch Dance Company celebrates its 50th anniversary this spring with two programs at The Joyce Theater featuring the world premiere of Lar Lubovitch's Something About Night as well as signature works from the Company's vast repertory. The Company will be joined by the Martha Graham Dance Company and principals from The Joffrey Ballet, each performing seminal Lubovitch dances in honor of this milestone year. Miami City Ballet's Program Three features the highly anticipated world premiere of One Line Drawn commissioned exclusively for the company by the Harris Theater of Music and Dance in Chicago with choreography by Brian Brooks. In addition to Brook's premiere, the Program also juxtaposes the old and the new, featuring George Balanchine's classic masterpiece Theme and Variations, with soaring music by Tchaikovsky, as well as Jerome Robbins' lighthearted The Concert (or, the Perils of Everybody), universally acclaimed as the funniest of all comic ballets.

A Christmas Carol cast features Milwaukee Rep favorite Jonathan Wainwright (Of Mice of Men, A Christmas Carol), reprising his role as Scrooge, portraying one of Dicken's most recognizable characters.
