2020 marks the 20th birthday of the Dragon Productions Theatre Company and is the first season that new co-artistic directors Alika Spencer Koknar and Bora a?oeMaxa?? Koknar have programmed for the company. The theatre season is the typical mix of Dragon produced a?oeMain Stage Seriesa?? shows and a?oe2nd Stages Seriesa?? plays. However, in 2020, as part of a company re-branding effort in progress, the 2nd Stages series will be renamed the Dragon's Nest Incubator Program to better acknowledge Dragon's commitment to the development of local artists of varying disciplines.

The Cleveland Orchestra announced the name of its groundbreaking citywide festival, Censored: Art & Power, scheduled for spring 2020. The festival is centered around the Orchestra's performances of Alban Berg's opera Lulu in May 2020, and seeks to spur discussion about the role of art in society, government censorship, and prejudice, taking as a starting point the Degenerate Art & Music movement in Nazi Germany. As a major focal point of the Orchestra's 2019-20 season, the festival will feature a variety of collaborative presentations surrounding and leading up to the opera performances (May 16, 19, and 22).

WaxFactory, one of the most internationally active multidisciplinary groups to emerge from the New York downtown scene, is proud to present LULU XX, a new cross-media performance that celebrates the company's 20th anniversary. Inspired by Frank Wedekind's timeless female protagonist, LULU XX challenges the idolatry and the misogyny of the male gaze in the artistic representation of women. Created by WaxFactory's co-founders Ivan Talijancic and Erika Latta, the performance revisits the unapologetic heroine of Wedekind's Lulu plays (Earth Spirit and Pandora's Box), asking new questions about agency, representation, and violence in the contemporary world. LULU XX runs September 18a?"28 at the Connelly Theater (220 E 4th Street, Manhattan) with an opening set for September 19.

Cordwainer Productions will present its fifth full-length production, and fourth full-length musical Spring Awakening, playing October 18 and 19 at the Courthouse Theatre in Whitby, and October 24, 25 and 26 at Market Hall Performing Arts Centre in Peterborough.

Prop Thtr is pleased to announce its 2019-20 Season, kicking off this fall with THE STOREFRONT PROJECT, a unique collaboration with The Museum of Contemporary Art. Six Chicago-based directors (Mikael Burke & April Cleveland, Sydney Chatman, Dado, Coya Paz, Denise Yvette Serna and Lucky Stiff) will each choose a text a?" not written for theater a?" and devise a new project, tailor-made for MCA Chicago and Prop Thtr spaces. Co-curated by MCA's associate curator of performance Tara Aisha Willis and Prop Thtr Artistic Director Olivia Lilley, the shows will be performed at both venues over two weekends.

Simon Stone stages his contemporary rewrite of Euripides' tragedy, Medea, at the BAM Harvey Theater running Jan 12—Feb 23, 2020. The production will star Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Rose Byrne (Damages, Bridesmaids, Get Him to the Greek) and two-time Emmy winner and Tony nominee Bobby Cannavale (Mauritius, The Motherf**ker With the Hat), with full cast to be announced.

The musical is based on Frank Wedekind's 1891 controversial play about teenagers trying to find their way in the world amid the angst of sexual discovery. Featuring music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater, the original Broadway production received eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and was hailed by the New York Drama Critics Circle, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle as the Best Musical of the Year.

St. Edward's University's choice for their spring musical is aptly named. While the words 'spring awakening' invoke images of beautiful flowers or a warm spring day, this musical contains everything but, with central themes of sexuality, religion, abuse, suicide, guilt and repression. I'll be blunt: go see this production. The cast of St. Edwards University blesses the audience with their talent, capturing the heartbreak, hope, and surprising humor that's integral to SPRING AWAKENING, based on the 1891 German play of the same name by Frank Wedekind.

Stage plays are meant to entertain and leave the audiences in complete awe. However, only a few would surely engage the audiences to review their morals and examine their convictions. Such is the Broadway musical 'Spring Awakening,' produced for the second time by the Ateneo Blue Repertory (blueREP).

Ateneo Blue Repertory (blueREP), the premier musical theater organization at Ateneo de Manila University, closes its 27th season with the Tony Award-winning musical 'Spring Awakening,' based on the play of the same name by Frank Wedekind, with book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik. The show runs until Sunday, April 14, 2019, at the Hyundai Hall Stage, Arete, Ateneo de Manila University (Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City).
