Yannick Nezet-Seguin conducts Michael Mayer's richly textured new production, featuring a dazzling 19th-century setting that changes with the seasons. Soprano Diana Damrau plays the tragic heroine, Violetta, and tenor Juan Diego Florez returns to the Met for the first time since 2015 to sing the role of Alfredo, Violetta's hapless lover. Baritone Quinn Kelsey is Alfredo's father, Germont, who destroys their love. Later performances feature Anita Hartig, Stephen Costello, Artur Ruci?ski, and Placido Domingo.

The Opera de Montreal opened its 39th season on September 15th, 2018 with Giuseppe Verdi's opera Rigoletto at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in Place des Arts. This 19th-century classic is steered by well-known director Michael Cavanagh as well as Italian conductor Carlo Montanaro, who leads the Orchestre Metropolitain and the Opera de Montreal Chorus. Rigoletto is performed by a mainly Canadian cast including Montreal's very own mezzo-soprano Carolyn Sproule.

River St Theatre To Screen Royal Opera's MACBETH

London's Royal Opera House production of Giuseppe Verdi's opera based on William Shakespeare's MACBETH will be shown in HD at the River Street Theatre (RST) in Jaffrey on Sunday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 23, both at 2pm This presentation is part of the RST's Stage2Screen Series. The River Street Theatre is a project of the soon-to-be-built Park Theatre.

Malmo Opera's production of Verdi's opera masterpiece, RIGLETTO is premiering Saturday next week in Malmo (March 24th). The show is known for being one of the most popular operas and is based upon an earlier play by the famous French author Victor Hugo called 'Le roi s'amuse' (The King Amuses Himself). Hugo has a history of writing plays and novels that take on the establishment. Another obvious, similarly-themed, tale is Hugo's classic 'Les Miserables.'
