Phoenix Theatre Ensemble announces that Josh Tyson is playing the title role in Moliere's great comedy Tartuffe in an adaptation by David Ball. 

French playwright Jean Anouilh wrote his 'Antigone' during the Nazi occupation of France. It became a symbol of resistance as freedom fighters viewed the heroine's defiance as a crie de coeur of patriotism. The play, written with a modern sensibility, is based on the Greek tragedy of the princess who dies for burying her brother's corpse against the orders of her dictator uncle. Its parallels to modern times are exciting and provocative.

Phoenix Theatre Ensemble (PTE), now in its 12th season, announces that Olivier-nominated playwright Glyn Maxwell's The Gambler will begin performances on January 21, 2016 at The Wild Project at 195 East 3rd Street in NYC's East Village.  It will be playing in repertory with Strindberg's Creditors through February 14. 

In one quick-moving hour and with a memorably melodic score, Passion in Pigskin tells the tragi-comic story of a love triangle between two New York Knights football players, Billy a dashing, cynical running back, Eddie, a sincere slow-witted tackle, and Mary Jo, a sweetly innocent cheerleader.

Two plays about the epic conflict of faith, hope and despair - one existential and one disturbingly real and circumstantial - will be seen in tandem at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, in December.

Celebrating eleven years and thousands of nominees, the New York Innovative Theatre awards took place at Mason Hall at Baruch Performing Arts Center.

Phoenix Theatre Ensemble presents Elise Stone in MEDEA & The Furies Directed by Karen Case Cook

(American Opera Projects) and Adelphi University present Independence Eve, a new chamber opera in three scenes that explores the troubled journey of race relations in America. The concert performances will take place on Thursday, November 13 at 7:30PM at the Concert Hall of the Performing Arts Center at Adelphi University (1 South Ave, Garden City, NY 11530), with a second performance on Saturday, November 15 at 8PM in the Great Room at AOP's South Oxford Space (138 S Oxford Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217). Composed by Sidney Marquez Boquiren with a libretto by Daniel Neer, the opera will include performances by baritone Jorell Williams, and tenor Brandon Snook. Damian Norfleet will act as stage director, while Mila Henry will provide music direction and piano.
