Photo Flash: ESPA Students in Site-Specific Directing!

This summer, the students in Site-Specific Directing at Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) have staged theatre all over New York City: from Shakespeare in Central Park to Chekhov on the Staten Island Ferry. The directors concluded their class this week by fully producing five new short plays in and under the High Line Park in Manhattan.

The Boomerang Theatre Company (Tim Errickson, Artistic Director; Sue Abbott, Managing Director) will kick off their 2011 season with an outdoor production of Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing, directed by Daniel Talbott and starring Sara Thigpen and Nate Miller. This spring, the students in Site-Specific Directing at Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) have staged theatre all over New York City: from Shakespeare in Central Park and on the High Line to Chekhov in the Russian and Turkish Baths to Sarah Kane on rooftops, libraries, and street corners. The directors concluded their class this week by fully producing eight new short plays by a group of incredible writers in and around the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn.

This spring, Site-Specific Directing returns to the curriculum along with a new class, Advanced Scene Study: Sarah Ruhl/Sarah Kane at Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA). The two worked together this week to present scenes from Sarah Kane in the East Village.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will open Lynn Nottage's award-winning play Ruined, directed by Liesl Tommy, at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 27 in the New Theatre. The play will run through October 31. Ruined joins Lisa's Kron's Well, also playing in the New Theatre, and Hamlet, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Pride and Prejudice, running in the Angus Bowmer Theatre.
