When the audience enters Atlantic Theater's Stage 2 for Carla Ching's Nomad Motel, presented as part of their New Play Development program, there's a very familiar type of character already hard at work on stage; a quiet young man, seriously at work composing music with his electric guitar.

Nomad Motel officially opened last night, June 3. The show features Ian Duff (Dutch Masters), Molly Griggs (Hello, Dolly!), Christopher Larkin (Fast Company), Samantha Mathis ('Billions') and Andrew Pang (after the quake).

Ma-Yi Theater Company is presenting the Off-Broadway world premiere of FRUITING BODIES by Asian-American playwright Sam Chanse, with Shelley Butler at the helm. The cast of FRUITING BODIES features Kimiye Corwin (Noises Off, Henry VI), Emma Kikue (God Said This, Up the Hill), Jeffrey Omura (House Rules, Hamlet) and Thom Sesma (Superhero, Sweeney Todd).

The League of Professional Theatre Women (Kelli Lynn Harrison and Catherine Porter, Co-Presidents), an organization which has been leading the gender parity conversation and championing women in the professional theatre for over 35 years, will present the 2019 Theatre Women Awards at The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture (18 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10012) on Monday, March 25 at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm). INTAR today announced the appointment of Paul A. Slee Rodriguez who will be heading up Strategic Partnerships for the organization, helping to design and implement strategies for organizational growth.  He will be working with the staff and Board on expanding the scope and strength of the organization on multiple fronts including Board development, funding, programming, real estate - locally, nationally and internationally. 

The American Theatre Wing announced today that the 2019 Jonathan Larson Grants recipients are Julia Gytri & Avi Amon (book, music and lyrics), Emily Gardner Xu Hall (book, music and lyrics), Andy Roninson (music and lyrics), and Ben Wexler (music and lyrics). Four prestigious grants of $10,000 each, as well as additional support in the form of residencies, concerts, and recording grants, totaling over $50,000, will be presented on Monday, March 19, 2018 at a private event at the WNYC Greene Space. The event will feature special performances of the recipients' work.

Unicorn Theater, as part of its commitment to the "National New Play Network," presents the rolling national premiere of "Nomad Motel," a new play by playwright Carla Ching (who was present for the opening).   The five person, two act, two hour fifteen minute play tells the story of growing up in a conflicted California and an even more conflicted America.

National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that collaborate in innovative ways to develop, produce, and extend the life of new plays, celebrates the final stop of its 81st Rolling World Premiere (RWP): Unicorn Theatre's production of Nomad Motel by Carla Ching. The Roll began at City Theatre Company, continued to Horizon Theatre Company and will run at Unicorn Theatre from January 23 to February 27, 2019 in Kansas City, MO. Nomad Motel was presented at NNPN's 2016 National Showcase of New Plays, hosted by the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at Austin.

Macha Theatre Works presents the world premiere of Sheathed by local playwright Maggie Lee, directed by Amy Poisson. This original new play was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Bay Area Playwrights Festival, and will be a produced in association with Theatre Off Jackson (409 7th Ave. S.), with performances from March 8 - 23, 2019.

New year, new Kilroys! For the past five years The Kilroys, an LA-based collective of playwrights/producers continuing the fight to achieve gender balance in the American theater, have been advocating for equal representation on our American stages, and have released an annual list of under-produced plays by women, trans, and non-binary writers. Despite some measurable progress, we still have a long way to go before we strike that balance. So, as we approach 2019, we are beyond thrilled to introduce a fresh new gang of fearless badass leaders. These women will seize our reins and continue the fight for equality, creating random acts of disruption along the way, while the OG Kilroys will serve as an advisory board supporting the current class. 

Ensemble Studio Theatre, along with The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation (Doron Weber, Vice-President, Programs), announced today the 2018 Fall Artist Cultivation Event, marking the 20th anniversary of the EST/Sloan Project, to take place on Monday, November 19 at 8pm with a reception beginning at 7:30pm.

Full of hilarity and poignancy, The Two Kids That Blow Sh*t Up hits the stage at Aurora Theatre through September 30. Written by Asian-American playwright Carla Ching of Fear the Walking Dead fame, the show follows the journey of two best friends falling in and out of love. Adult audiences will journey along on the thrilling, wild ride of Max and Diana's relationship, filled with highs, lows and the hopeless influence of their parents.

Neighbors Max and Diana were put through the ringer as children as their parents had a dysfunctional affair off and on for most of the kids' growing up years. Aurora Theatre's production of Carla Ching's THE TWO KIDS THAT BLOW SH*T UP follows two characters from age 9 to mid-life, with a twist.
