Montalvo Arts Center presents multi-Grammy winning Jazz-Fusion band Yellowjackets in its Carriage House Concert Series. Yellowjackets has recorded 22 albums, received 17 Grammy nominations, and performed countless sold-out tours, enjoying worldwide critical acclaim and commercial success. Segerstrom Center for the arts presents Grammy® Award-winning vocalist Kurt Elling in a special holiday set “The Beautiful Day” - Kurt Elling Sings Christmas for two performances on December 15 at 7 pm and 9 pm. Declared by The New York Times as “the standout male jazz vocalist of our time,” Kurt Elling returns to the Center with a special program that will feature a repertoire of songs from his holiday album, The Beautiful Day. Elling says, “I knew I didn't want to make a 'religious' record, just as I knew I didn't want to make a standard, swingin' jazzy Christmas. I'm trying to expand my consciousness and embrace the goodness of the season, and I want to include everybody. For me, Christmas is a time of consideration, of pondering mysteries.” Inventive and fresh, this very special program reimagines the sounds of Christmas, mixing traditional carols decked out in new arrangements with songs that are revelations and rediscovered treats. Elling wraps the universal themes of hope, light, wonder, mystery, and goodwill in musical packages full of delightful surprises.

Irish Arts Center (IAC), the multidisciplinary center dedicated to bringing people of all backgrounds together through the excellence and dynamism of Irish arts and culture, this year creates a thrilling intersection of musical traditions from Ireland and the Gulf of Mexico for its annual Winter Solstice Celebration (December 14 at Symphony Space). The beloved holiday gathering is hosted by NEA award winner and "one of the most important Irish musicians to emerge from the folk revival of the 1970s" (Time Out) Mick Moloney (banjo, mandolin, vocals) and acclaimed fiddler Athena Tergis.

Curated by Performances a la Carte, Jazz 'n Paz is back with its' fall intimate jazz series of three concerts with some of Los Angeles' finest jazz musicians. Taking place on early Sunday evenings, this season's series opens September 16 with 2 + 1 featuring Jamie Perez, Lyman Medeiros and Nolan Shaheed; Lolly Allen & Friends on October 7; and on November 4, Latin/world jazz with Will Brahm & Homenaje, bringing different cultures and people together through their original music.
