Donizetti’s so-called “Tudor Trilogy”--ANNA BOLENA, MARIA STUARDA and ROBERTO DEVEREUX (aka, “the one about Elizabeth I”)--suddenly has some competition on British history in opera: Camille Saint-Saens' HENRI VIII.

Starting next Friday, July 21, the 20th annual Bard SummerScape presents the first major new American production of Camille Saint-Saëns’s unjustly neglected grand opera Henri VIII (July 21, 23, 26, 28, and 30).

The Fisher Center at Bard and its renowned annual Bard SummerScape festival both celebrate their 20th anniversaries this year. “A hotbed of intellectual and aesthetic adventure” (New York Times), SummerScape returns to New York's Hudson Valley this summer with seven weeks of live music, opera, music-theater, and more, in the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center and other venues on the idyllic Bard College campus (June 23–Aug 13).

LA Opera will open its 2022/23 season with a new production of Lucia di Lammermoor, Gaetano Donizetti's spellbinding tale of marriage, madness and murder. Lina González-Granados leads the proceedings in her debut outing as the company's new Resident Conductor.

The Metropolitan Opera today announced its 2022–23 season, which features seven new productions, the most in ten seasons. Today, the Metropolitan Opera announced its 2020-21 season, the first in which Yannick Nézet-Séguin assumes his full breadth of musical duties as the company's Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer Music Director, conducting six productions. His schedule includes the Met premiere of Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking, the first contemporary opera conducted by the maestro on the Met stage, as part of his ongoing commitment to opera of our time at the Met, which will expand in the seasons to come.

American Symphony Orchestra comes to Alice Tully Hall for the holiday season with a concert titled Sons of Bach on Thursday, December 19 at 8 PM. American Symphony Orchestra announced the 58th season of its three-concert Vanguard series at Carnegie Hall, now expanded to include an additional performance at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. The season also marks the return of the Orchestra's popular series to New York City's Symphony Space-which originally took place between 1998 and 2015-with a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in conjunction with the ASO's celebration of the great composer's 250th birthday. This series combines complete concerts of well-known, major orchestral works with interactive educational demonstrations. The full 2019-20 season runs from October 31, 2019 through March 12, 2020.
