At the current moment, our society is experiencing a “loneliness epidemic.” We have 24/7 access to the people in our lives, yet that access doesn’t necessarily lead to deep, long lasting bonds. In this layered ensemble piece, we explore a myriad of different perspectives and solutions to this challenge. We have Apple, who has everything she could want, except real connection. Sue, who has passion and fame and people who support her cause, but those people aren’t necessarily trusted companions. Annie, Biff, Blythe, and Daria, who seem to be real friends, but what happens when ambition and ethical dilemmas get in the way? This play examines these questions with nuance, wit, and a healthy dose of comedy. I hope you enjoy I Have Friends!, and I invite you to lean in to the questions that it raises for you.
