Hong Kong and Canadian Game Shows Brought To Localized and Unauthorized Life In “Duty Free Live!” at Caveat Theater, November 21st, 2022
LOWER EAST SIDE, NEW YORK CITY – “Duty Free Live! Unauthorized Imported Game Shows!” is a comedy show bringing international game show formats to (unauthorized) life by New York’s best improv comedians. Led by The Game Show and Segments Research Club, Kent Morita, Grant Mulitz, and Christopher Morucci, the first show will be an unauthorized, localized production of segments from two smash-hit international game shows, “The Joke’s On Us” and “Super Trio”, from Canada and Hong Kong respectively.
What is “The Joke’s On Us”? The Joke’s On Us is a Canadian game show from the 1980’s Originally hosted by Monty Hall, in which a panel of comedians share jokes and write alternative punchlines for each other's set ups and contestants have to guess which joke is the original! The show highlighted the comedic sensibilities of Canadian stand up comedians of the time and allowed for a look into the individuality of a writer’s voice and brought a wonderful aspect of playful collaboration between comedians. Our adaptation focuses on highlighting voices of a young and diverse panel of New York’s best stand up comedians.
What is “Super Trio”? Super Trio is the mega hit Hong Kong variety comedy show that has been filling Hong Kong homes with laughter for decades. Debuting in 1995, the show brings light hearted laughter filled with games and segments that involve word play, agility, and a penchant for eating sushi that may or may not be filled with inordinate levels of wasabi.
Mabou Mines will present the work of the 2020 SUITE/Space Artists Christopher-Rashee Stevenson, Sean Devare, Shenny de Los Angeles and Sim Yan Ying 'YY' streaming live from October 22-31, 2020.
