On March 10, goth-folk duo Charming Disaster will present a live musical performance to celebrate the release of Our Lady of Radium, their new album of songs inspired by pioneering scientist Marie Curie (out March 4 on all platforms). The show will take place at Lower East Side venue Caveat, a speakeasy for “intelligent nightlife,” and will also be livestreamed. Advance tickets are $15 at caveat.nyc, where livestream tickets are also available.
With their signature ukulele, guitar, foot percussion, and interlocking vocal harmonies, Charming Disaster will perform all nine songs from Our Lady of Radium, exploring myth, magic, mortality, and moments from Madame Curie’s life and research: romance, science, tragedy, scandal, and other secret histories. Charming Disaster’s fourth album represents a departure from the occult themes the goth-folk duo have become known for on past releases, but their theatrical, playfully dark aesthetic is perfectly suited to exploring Curie’s discoveries (and their consequences).
Charming Disaster, based in Brooklyn, NY, was formed in 2012 by singer/songwriters Ellia Bisker and Jeff Morris. Their music has been featured on the podcast Welcome to Night Vale, they have toured with renowned cello-rock ensemble Rasputina, and their theatrical live performances have captivated audiences across the United States. Past appearances in NYC include Joe's Pub at The Public Theater, Brooklyn’s historic Green-Wood Cemetery, and the Coney Island Sideshow stage.
