“I am thrilled with the sponsorship relationship between Goya Foods and Lehman Center for the Performing Arts. JERRY RIVERA, the Salsa, Tropical Pop, and Bolero Superstar, was born and raised in Puerto Rico in a musical family of singers and is one of the best-selling Tropical music artists of all time. As a child, he would often accompany his parents at their performances. At one of these shows Frankie Ruiz sang a couple of songs with them and posed for a picture with the then 13-year-old Rivera, forever becoming his idol and inspiration. A year later, Tommy Olivencia heard Rivera sing and encouraged his father, Edwin “Pino” Rivera, to make a demo of young Jerry, which Pino presented to CBS Records, who subsequently signed him. Rivera earned the nickname "El Bebé de la Salsa" with the release of his first album Empezando A Vivir, which spawned his first hit “De La Cabeza A Los Pies”. His second album, Abriendo Puertas (1990), recorded when he was only fifteen, held the #1 position on the Billboard Tropical Album chart for eight weeks, and included the hits “Dime”, and “Más Que Tú”. Most notably, that album is considered responsible for turning on a new, younger generation to Salsa. Rivera then followed up with the 1992 quadruple-platinum album Cuenta Conmigo, one of Salsa’s top-selling albums, that went on to remain a combined forty weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Tropical Album chart and won two Premios Lo Nuestro Awards (for Best Tropical Album and Best Male Performer). That album contained what is now considered Rivera’s signature song, “Amores Como El Nuestro”, as well as three other major hits: "Casi un Hechizo", “Una en un Million”, and the title track “Cuenta Conmigo”. In 1993, he released the Grammy-nominated album Cara de Niño, which climbed to #2 on the Billboard Tropical/Salsa chart and contained “Que Hay de Malo”, his first hit to reach the top ten singles chart, which peaked at #4. The triple-platinum selling album went on to win the Venezuelan Orquidia de Oro award, Miami’s Congo de Oro award, two Premios Lo Nuestro Awards, two Diplo Prizes, and a Grammy nomination for Tropical Music Singer of the Year. Rivera's more than twenty albums recorded over his prolific career range from Tropical Pop to the Bolero album Rivera (2001, that included the #1 hits “Ese”, and “Quiero”) and his popular Salsa tribute to Frankie Ruíz, Canto a mi Idolo...Frankie Ruíz (2003, with the hits “Mi Libertad”, and “Puerto Rico”), which garnered his fourth Grammy nomination. Amongst his multitude of top 40 hit songs are “Loco de Amor”, “Suave”, “Una y Mil Veces”, “Magia”, “Quien de Los Dos”, “Solo Pienso En Ti”, “Solo Con Un Beso”, and “El Amor Existe”. In 1994 Rivera acted in the film I Like It Like That, and has appeared in several Puerto Rican television shows as well as the Latin American soap opera Mi Destino Eres Tu, which aired in the US on Univision in 2005. In 2007, he released Caribe Gardel, a tribute to Argentine singer Carlos Gardel that featured Gardel's “Cuesta Abajo”, one of that year’s major salsa hits. His latest releases are Frente a Frente (with Rey Ruiz, 2015), Evolucion (2015), Salsero Original (2016), and this year’s new single “Me Hace Daño Amarte”.
FUNK SALSA URBAN – The New York based Latin band F.S.U (Funk Salsa Urban) released their first single "Amazing" in 2016. Inspired by 90's Latin group DLG, Funk Salsa Urban is fusing the basic Salsa rhythms with elements of Funk & Urban, including Spanglish lyrics, to create an inner city new sound. Their new single is entitled “Starboy”.
