Toyland is seeking auditions from singers ages 16+ to be part of our virtual premiere concert. Written by breakout writing duo Tessa Barcelo and Wyland Stephenson, Toyland is a concert style musical about abandoned toys (think SIX meets Toy Story). Character breakdowns
Barbie: Female, soprano. This is not your parents' Barbie doll. Ken took the kids and left her broke, so she's trying to reinvent herself. Must be a strong mixer.
Sugar Plum: Any gender, rapper. An Elf-on-the-Shelf who used to make toys for Santa, but now sits in a plastic bag for most of the year and is very bitter about it.
Starcrossed Girl: Female, soprano. A music-box ballerina who found love with a comic book villain. Just wants to love in peace. Whimsical and fairy-esque.
Starcrossed Boy: Male, tenor. A comic book villain who found love with a music-box ballerina. Just wants to love in peace. Bad boy vibes, but a heart of gold.
Beanie Baby #1: Female, soprano. One of four beanie babies who are very economically knowledgeable and always in unison.
Beanie Baby #2: Female, alto. One of four beanie babies who are very economically knowledgeable and always in unison.
Beanie Baby #3: Male, tenor. One of four beanie babies who are very economically knowledgeable and always in unison.
Beanie Baby #4: Male, baritone. One of four beanie babies who are very economically knowledgeable and always in unison.Bumble: Any gender, baritone or alto. A pillow pet who has been neglected for many years. Very shy and scared of making a mistake and being shunned by the world again.
Raggedy Ann: Female, mezzo. The queen of Toyland, very confident and commanding. Though she comes off as harsh, she does care (even if she never shows it).
Knight #1: Male, tenor. A goofy medieval knight with a strong sense of honor and duty. Only has three brain cells, all of them dedicated to serving his queen.
Knight #2: Male, baritone. A goofy medieval knight with a strong sense of honor and duty. Only has three brain cells, all of them dedicated to serving his queen.
Tamagotchi: Male, baritenor. An old and forgotten tamagotchi pet who is exceptionally hurt by his abandonment, but very good at keeping his emotions in check; only has one outburst of emotion in the entire show.
Papa Potato: Male, tenor. Mr. Potato Head. The unlicensed therapist of Toyland with a passion for gospel music. Gives sometimes okay advice and constantly misplacing his nose.
Teddy: Female or nonbinary, mezzo. The emcee of the show, very flamboyant and theatrical persona that covers a deep, deep hurt and bitterness. Must be a strong belter.
