Synopsis:

The Masher is a disturbing and often hysterically funny #MeToo allegory. Three women of wildly different backgrounds find themselves linked together in a minimum wage factory job where they have little more to do than push a button. The work is boring and underpaid, but what they don’t realize is their work is sinister. That button they are pushing is actually the “go” switch for something horrifying. But why? The story watches these women become aware of their place in this diabolical history, their chance to change it and finally in a macabre twist, their chance to avenge their cohort and friend. Like Hand to God, The Masher should make audiences both deeply emotional and laugh with a “What the hell was that?” response.

Doris McDonald: 45 to 60 to play 55-65. Conservative, working class, salt-of-the-earth woman. She is backwards, low-grade bigoted and lazy in her thoughts about other people, but at the same time, actually means well. We all know this woman, she is the family member or in-law we put up with grudgingly. One of the three leads, this actress will need to feel comfortable with long monologues.

Tae Stone: 25-35 to play 30. Lesbian feminist grad student, using the job to make ends meet. She is smart, emotional and loyal. CAST

Cassandra Troy 30 to 45 to play 35. Cassandra is a victim of abuse trying to escape a violent husband. She should be beautiful but worn-out looking—someone who, through too much abuse and constant stress, is always worried and her natural light and attractiveness is submerged. One of the three leads, this actress will need to feel comfortable with long monologues. Kissing scene with lesbian character.

Supervisor Jackson, 25 to 50. She is the direct supervisor to the women and a cold, exacting, perfectionistic “company woman.” She’s that bitch we have all worked with.

The Husband, Kurt 30-plus to play 45. This guy is a misogynistic coward, a sexist and a bro. With an anger problem and a heavy dose of both stupidity and narcissism, he is lost and overcome with his own selfishness. He sees his wife Cassandra as “owing” him and he feels she is his property. He is a bully until he is trapped and a coward when he sees that he is. Probably would wear a MAGA hat.

The Unknown Man, 18 to 35 to play college-aged. A young and friendly guy. Through a foolish mistake, he finds himself trapped in a deadly situation. There are millions of young men just like him—he was just unfortunate to live in a time where he gets trapped by his own unthinking choices and circumstances.

Mister Chi, the Security Guard, 30-60 to play 40plus. Chi is a friendly, low key guy, basically a good man, but in a low-end nowhere kind of job. He is helpful and kind but likes to keep away from trouble. He wants to protect his job.
