JODI PURDY CASTING and LIGHTNING HOUSE PLAYERS IS CASTING FOR ROLES IN AN ORIGINAL MUSICAL

Be part of the reopening of the New England Fall Theatre Season!

We are seeking performers for the following roles in the world-premiere of our original musical:

George, the Glassblower - (Male, Lyric baritone Bb2-E4) a man with a hardened heart, 40s; Sandy’s father. George spent years as an indentured servant. He enjoyed a brief period of happiness in his life, but it was taken away from him to soon when tragedy struck. Hides away from the rest of what he sees as a cruel, unforgiving world, while worrying about what will become of Sandy; principle role.

Captain of Guard - (Male, flexible vocal range) a dedicated, but world-weary warrior, 20s - 50s; stage combat, includes spoken dialogue and singing, supporting role

Soldier - (Male, flexible vocal range) strapping young man, 20s; stage combat, includes spoken dialogue and singing, supporting role

Governor 1, Hatter, dance ensemble - (Male, flexible vocal range) any adult age, must have strong dance skills; needed for several original, innovative dance numbers being choreographed; supporting role, solo in a song, chorus in several others

Governor 2, Pewtersmith, dance ensemble - (Male/Nonbinary) any adult age, must have strong dance skills; needed for several original, innovative dance numbers being choreographed; supporting role, spoken lines

Governor’s Wife 4, dance ensemble - (Female/Nonbinary) any adult age, must have strong dance skills; needed for several original, innovative dance numbers being choreographed

Pay: Flat $200 stipend

About the Show

The Glassblower’s Daughter is a coming-of-age story about a teenager living in a fictional early American colony. This inspirational tale follows Sandy as she learns to find her voice and grows empowered to fight against the injustices she sees, despite the limits imposed upon her by her community.

Rehearsals: September 7, 2021 - October 21, 2021

Performances: October 22, 23, and 24, 2021

How to Apply / Contact

  • Singing Range
  • Willingness to consider other roles: Yes or No
  • Any special skills, acrobatics, gymnastics, juggling, hula hoop dancing, contortion, etc., that you may possess

For the singing roles: Links or attachments for two (2) video recordings of cuts of different songs. The first cut should be anything from the Golden Age of Broadway Musicals or Sondheim; the second cut should be a jazz or contemporary pop song. Each cut should be about 1 minute in length.

For the dancing roles: Links or attachments for a one to two (1-2) minute video recording of a dance routine that shows off your strengths as a dancer. Style may be jazz, ballet, or contemporary.

For all roles: Links or attachments for a video recording of a two-minute monologue from a professionally-produced, contemporary (i.e., 20th century or later) play or musical. The monologue may be either comical or dramatic, of both. No original works or self-written pieces! The title and author of the show should be clearly identified at the beginning of your recording.
