TCT Off Broadway!
TCT Off Broadway will hold auditions for
Ring of Fire by Richard Maltby, Jr.
on Monday, December 14 and Tuesday, December 15 at 6:00 pm
at TCT Off Broadway, located at 213 Franklin Street.
From the opening chords of vintage Country to Rockabilly,
Rock n' Roll, searing ballads and gentle songs of love and deep faith, ROF packs a score that provides a rich fabric in which to lay down the story of Johnny Cash. The great bio-pic Walk the Line told the story of the events of Cash's life and the incredible struggles and triumphs of his life. RING OF FIRE gives the music the spotlight, as a core group of talented actor/musicians celebrate the songs that are such a part of our collective experience.
The cast consists of four male and one female vocalist, ages 18 and up, all of which should ideally play at least one of the instruments listed below: TRENNA-Female vocalist, doubling on acoustic guitar if possible JASON-Male vocalist playing acoustic guitar DAVE-Male vocalist playing electric guitar, banjo and fiddle EDDIE-Male vocalist playing acoustic and electric guitar MARK-Male vocalist playing bass (preferably double bass but electric bass can be used) and various percussion Those auditioning should prepare a Cash song (or otherwise stylistically appropriate song) of their choice. Singing AND playing an instrument listed above is strongly encouraged. Singers are asked to bring their instrument of choice; however, an acoustic guitar will be made available at auditions. If the singer does not wish to attempt to play an instrument, an accompanist will be provided. Haley Agnew will direct. Production dates are February 25 and 26 at TOB. You Can't Take It With You by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman
on Sunday, December 20th at 2 p.m. and Monday, December 21stat 7 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre. This is the 80th anniversary of the hilarious comedy's first production and just completed a revival on Broadway starting James Earl Jones.
THE STORY: At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it is not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world is madder. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys. The plot shows how Tony, attractive young son of the Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore and brings his parents to dine at the Sycamore home on the wrong evening. The shock sustained by the Kirbys, who are invited to eat cheap food, shows Alice that marriage with Tony is out of the question. The Sycamores, however, though sympathetic to Alice, find it hard to realize her point of view. Meantime, Tony, who knows the Sycamores are right and his own people wrong, will not give her up, and in the end Mr. Kirby is converted to the happy madness of the Sycamores, particularly since he happens in during a visit by an ex-Grand Duchess, earning her living as a waitress. No mention has as yet been made of the strange activities of certain members of the household engaged in the manufacture of fireworks; nor of the printing press set up in the parlor; nor of Rheba the maid and her friend Donald; nor of Grandpa's interview with the tax collector when he tells him he doesn't believe in the income tax.
