Callbacks consist of a 2-week free workshop with both the UnTheatre Company UnSemble members and Greg Allen the founder of Neo-Futurism, on the format – both writing and performing. This intense and fast-paced hands-on workshop culminates in a performance devised from the plays you have written. You must be available for the callback workshop. Casting will be determined at its conclusion. The workshop runs:

August 12-23 – 7pm-10pm weekdays

Sat. August 17, 10am-5pm

Sun. August 18 10am-1pm with a BBQ immediately afterwards

Sat. August 24 1pm-11pm includes an invited presentation at the conclusion of the workshop

Location: Matrix Theatre Company – 2710 Bagley Ave. Detroit, MI

We are seeking 6-15 UnSemble company members who will write, direct and perform plays as well as assist the company with organizational needs such as marketing, technical support and any additional production requirements. Please note that this company is based in Neo-Futurism and as such aims to present actual life on stage by creating a world in the theatre that has no pretense or illusion. In short, you are who you are, you are where you are, you are doing what you are doing and the time is now. We are looking specifically for diversity in viewpoints from perspectives of race, politics, gender identity, religion, physical ability and age. Due to the rehearsal schedule and the nature of the work to be done we are only auditioning performers who are over 18.

Audition Preparation: Please be prepared to perform two original pieces approximately 2 minutes in length that reflect in truth who you are, how you express yourself and how you process the world around you. Bring a hard copy of those pieces with you. We are looking for artists that can express themselves in a variety of ways...performers, actors, dancers, singers, contortionists and comedians. So if you dance, please move for us. If you sing, we want to hear you. Can you do the worm? Bring it on? Got a really sexy marketing portfolio – whip it out! We want to see everything that you can do. We are very interested in artists with additional experience in technical theatre, arts management and/or marketing.

Salary/Pay Rate: UnSemble members earn a profit share of 40% of ticket sales per performance and differing shares of annual profits per additional work done throughout the season. New performers must make a six-month commitment to the company – not necessarily consecutively - but we should be able to count on you to be able to perform or assist the performances for six (1)-month periods of your choosing.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals are 2 nights a week for 2-3 weeks prior to each run (runs are anywhere from 1-6 weeks in length depending on venue availability). Additional rehearsals are 2 nights a week during the performance run itself. Additional workshopping sessions may be required throughout the year.

Performances: Performances vary throughout the season but generally occur Fridays or Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 6pm with occasional late night performances on Fridays or Saturdays at 10:30 or 11pm. Additional special events are added throughout the season.

Additional Information: Please note that there is no “home” theatre that we perform in. We travel throughout Southeast Michigan and plan to travel throughout the state. This is not traditional theatre in any sense. Our goal is to use Neo-Futurism to break down barriers and connect on a personal level in order to come together as human beings and affect change in our society inclusive of our varying backgrounds. We also want to create a platform for people to use writing and performance to process what is happening in the world around them. If you are hip to what we are up to and interested in how we do it we definitely want you to join our team! Please make sure to visit the website prior to your auditions and familiarize yourself with what we do.
