THE WIZARD OF OZ - Des Moines Community Playhouse

Auditions for "The Wizard of Oz," based on the MGM movie, will be held at the Des Moines Community Playhouse at 6:00 PM on Sunday, Oct. 14. Those auditioning should bring a prepared solo; an accompanist is provided. Those auditioning for the two non-singing roles, Miss Gulch/Wicked Witch of the West and Prof. Marvel/Wizard, do not need to prepare a solo. All auditions are open to the public; no one is pre-cast. "The Wizard of Oz" contains feature roles for 5 men and 3 women, ages 16 and up; 1 girl, age 14-18; plus an ensemble of adults and youths, ages 8 and up. Performances are Dec. 7-30, with school matinees Dec. 17-18. "The Wizard of Oz" is directed by Kathy Pingel with choreography by Alison Shafer and music direction by Steve Woodin.

Dorothy Gale of Kansas dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her over the rainbow to another world, where she befriends the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
