SECOND NIGHT OF AUDITIONS for The Mrs. Wheatland Pageant
A Comedy by Lisa Wagner Erickson
Directed by Ceil Herman

Tuesday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the Black Box Theatre, 430 N. Main Street
in Las Cruces

NEEDED ARE 3 WOMEN AND ONE MAN.

JUNE CLEVELAND : 29, worries about turning 30, Longs to live in a perfect
world with no uncertainty

JIM CLEVELAND: Mid 30s. June’s husband. Sick of small town life. A Man’s
man who happens to like baking and high heels.

BARB: Late 20s to early 30s. No-nonsense and independent. Refuses to
conform to stereotypical gender norms

VIVIAN: Late 30s to mid 40s: wife of a philandering local preacher. On a
mission to be the hottest Christian woman in town.

MILLIE (ANNOUNCER): 27, local school secretary. The voice is only heard
during pageant announcements and can be played by one of the actors playing
June, Vivian or Barb.

ABOUT THE PLAY

Set in a fictitious town on the eastern plains of Colorado. Act One takes
place in June and Jim’s dining room. Act Two is backstage in a school
auditorium.. The play is a rollicking comedy where nostalgic sitcom
fantasies, strange fertility regimens, and gender norms collide in one
woman’s search for certainty in a world that is anything but.

Auditions will be readings from the script. A perusal copy with be
available at the Branigan Library Ask Here Desk from July 16.

The play runs from September 6-22. There will be an extension to September
29 if audience response warrants.
