THE GREAT GATSBY and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN - Des Moines Community Playhouse
Auditions for the new drama F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and for the Tony Award nominated musical comedy The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein will be held at the Des Moines Community Playhouse at 6:30 PM, Monday, Sept. 26. Actors may audition for both shows. All auditions are open to the public; no one is pre-cast. Where race, ethnicity, gender, age, or other personal differentiations are not specified by the script, the Playhouse casts plays without regard to these attributes, and actively encourages participation by all members of the community. F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby contains feature roles for 5 men and 4 women, ages 16 and up. Performances are Jan. 27-Feb. 12, 2017. The Great Gatsby is directed by John Viars.
What would you do for true love? Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, takes Long Island newcomer Nick Carraway under his wing and into his decadent world of obsession, greed, and danger. Gatsby hopes to reunite with Nick's cousin, Daisy Buchanan, his true love from a lifetime ago. The glamour of the Jazz Age comes to life in this new adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel.
The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein contains feature roles for 7 men and 3 women, ages 16 and up, plus an ensemble of men and women, ages 16 and up. Performances are Mar. 17-Apr. 9, 2017. Those auditioning for Young Frankenstein must bring a prepared solo. An accompanist will be provided, as well as the ability to play an accompaniment track from an iPhone or similar device. Young Frankenstein is directed by Maxwell Schaeffer with musical direction by Brenton Brown and choreography by Alison Shafer.
From the creators of The Producers comes a hilarious re-imagining of the classic Frankenstein story. With the help of some friends, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein) succeeds in creating a monster to rival his grandfather's, but not without some hilarious complications.
The Playhouse is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
