THE FIRST CHRISTMAS **Updated** - SCERA Center for the Arts

SCERA & Liken announce auditions for “The First Christmas” on Aug. 24 and Sept. 3-4

Liken’s “The First Christmas” is back as part of SCERA's 2013-2014 indoor season at the SCERA Center for the Arts and will play November 29 to December 21 on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30pm. Michael Carrasco is directing. SCERA and Ken Agle and Dennis Agle Jr. are co-producing.

Auditions for principal roles will be held August 24 from 10am-2pm at the SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 South State, Orem. Singing roles include Angel Gabriel, Mary, Joseph, Zacharias, Grandma/Elisabeth, Omar, Sharif and other shepherds, four wise men, Amelia (girl age 8-12) and her parents, Scott and Joanna. Non-singing roles include King Herod and his advisor, Nimrod. Auditioners ages 18 and older should prepare to sing 16 bars of a Broadway-style song and prepare a 1-minute monologue. The director may have actors do a cold reading from the script.

Auditions for ensemble roles will be held Sept. 3-4 from 6-9pm. Parts include the Heavenly Host Choir, townspeople in the ancient world, and guards and dancers in King Herod's court. Auditioners ages 14 and older should prepare to sing 16 bars of a Broadway-style song.

Note: The modern-day bookends for this year's version of The First Christmas will be different than last year's version. Rather than being set in a middle school, it will be set in the living room of Amelia's grandmother on Christmas Eve. There will be some fun surprises. We can't share details yet, but we can say that Amelia, her parents and grandmother will all be singing roles this year. We will not be auditioning for members of the middle school choir this year.

No appointment is necessary to audition. A headshot and resume is helpful, but not required. An accompanist or IPOD playback will be provided. Rehearsals will begin September 17. For more information, call (801) 225-ARTS.
