Seussical Audition Announcement!
Little Radical Theatrics Inc (Fatima Viegas, Executive Producer; Michael Mirra, Artistic Director) is proud to announce auditions for Seussical!
Directed by Michael J Mirra, Choreographed by Jennifer Silverman, Musical Direction By Mark Galinovsky
Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
Performances January 13-15th at the Grinton Will Library 1500 Central Ave Yonkers, NY (snow dates/possible second weekend January 20th-22nd)
Auditions October 17th and October 19th 7-9 PM at Arts Westchester 31 Mamaroneck Ave White Plains NY. Callbacks October 29th in the afternoon at ArtsW.
Rehearsals begin mid-November Mon-Thurs evenings and Sundayafternoons at Arts W and at the Grinton Will Library. Exact schedule will depend on role. Children in the cast will not be kept past 7:30/8 PM on weekdays and we will make an effort to keep their rehearsals to Sundays.

Seeking:
The Cat in The Hat: Our story's omniscient narrator, he is fun loving and enjoys rhyming. Pops up throughout the story to help the audience. Wise and attentive. Age Range: 18-50. True triple threat, wonderful singer with excellent comedic timing and improv ability who is also a strong mover/dancer. Willing to consider all genders for this role.
JoJo: Our story's omniscient narrator, he is fun loving and enjoys rhyming. Pops up throughout the story to help the audience. Wise and attentive. Age Range: 10-13. Strong singer and actor. May consider all genders for this role.
Horton the Elephant: Our story's omniscient narrator, he is fun loving and enjoys rhyming. Pops up throughout the story to help the audience. Wise and attentive. Strong actor and singer who has great comedic timing but can also play heartwrenching dramtic moments. Gender: Male. Age Range 25-40. Baritone with strong upper register.
Gertrude McFuzz: Horton's one-feathered-tail bird neighbor. Gertrude is sweet and timid. Though kind and loyal, she is also self-conscious of her shortfalls. Strong actor and singer with wonderful comedic timing. Gender: Female. Age Range: 17-35. Soprano with mix or belt
Mayzie LaBird: The most beautiful bird in all of the jungle. Oblivious to her self-centered ways, she relies on her talent of manipulation, and intoxicating beauty, to navigate her way through life. Strong singer and dancer with wonderful comedic timing. Gender: Female. Age Range 25-35. Mezzo Belt.
Sour Kangaroo: The 'leader' of the jungle. She is loud, brassy, and stubbornly set in her ways. A caring mother, but unabashedly sassy and soulful. Extremely strong singer (think Aretha Franklin) with good comedic timing who moves well. Gender: Female. Age Range: 25-50. Mezzo Belter with Soul/Gospel sound.
Mr. Mayor: The Mayor of Whoville and JoJo’s Dad. He and his wife try hard to raise a difficult child in a difficult world. They may get aggravated with JoJo, but they love him dearly and try to do the right thing, even if it turns out to be a mistake. Strong actor and singer. Gender: Male. Age Range: 35-55. Tenor
Mrs. Mayor: The Mayor’s Wife and JoJo’s Mom. Her and her husband try hard to raise a difficult child in a difficult world. They may get aggravated with JoJo, but they love him dearly and try to do the right thing, even if it turns out to be a mistake. Strong actor and singer with good comedic timing. Gender: Female. Age Range 35-55. Mezzo
Bird Girls: Three Sassy birds and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. The popular girls in any school--a clique of pretty, self-centered back up birds who do whatever Mayzie does. They often act as storytellers, picking up where The Cat left off. A big presence throughout the evening. Great singers and dancers with lots of soulful, sassy singing. Must have strong harmony and dance skills! Gender: Female. Age Range: 16-35. All vocal parts.
General Genghis Kahn Schmidt: A General who is bursting with pride at the military academy he runs, and the boys he turns out. He is not mean; he honestly thinks he is doing the right thing and is making the world a better place. Extremely strong singer and actor with amazing comedic timing. Gender: Male. Age Range: 35-60+. Baritenor
The Wickershams: Three monkey brothers and citizens of the Jungle of Nool. These are not bad guys! They're simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at others' expense. They side with the Sour Kangaroo in her campaign against Horton and cause more trouble for poor Horton. Strong singer and movers/dancers with lots of soulful singing, much like a hip hop group. Must have great personalities and good comedic timing. Gender: Male. Age Range: 15-35. All Vocal Types (must be gret with harmonies).
Thing 1 and Thing 2: The Cat’s main helpers and an extension of his personality. Essence of mischief, fun and imagination. They assist The Cat in many ways, either playing small roles or causing havoc. They have a presence in almost every scene. Strong singers and movers with good comic ability. Gender: All Genders. Age Range: 9-16. Any vocal part.
Yertle the Turtle/The Grinch/Vlad Vladikoff:
Strong actor and singer who moves well to portray three featured roles; Yertle the Turtle who presides over Horton's trial, The Grinch who is featured in the Who sequnces, and Vlad Vladikoff who steals the clover. Will also be featured in the Jungle of Nool. Gender: Male. Age Range: 30- 60+.
Baby Kangaroo: A baby kangaroo and a citizen of the Jungle of Nool. She is the Sour Kangaroo’s daughter and does whatever her mother does. She’s very sassy with lots of attitude. May double as a Who Good singer/actor with comic ability. Gender: Female. Age Range: 9-12.
The Who's: Citizens of Whoville on the Planet of Who. They're a lot like you and me only so small as to be invisible. They live in fear that their planet is in trouble. Strong singer/actors who move well and are great with harmonies . Will be featured in the Who sequences and as ensemble members throughout. Age Range 8-60+
The Cadets: Cadets of General Schmitz’ Military Academy. They bully JoJo. Not mean, just doing what they are told to do. Strong singer/movers. Will double as Who's or Jungle Creatures. All genders. Age Range 8-13
