Ruthless! Cast Breakdown
Theatre Palisades invites you to audition for the off-Broadway award-winning musical, Ruthless!, directed by Alta Abbott, produced by Sherman Wayne and Martha Hunter, choreographed by Victoria Miller with musical direction by Brian Murphy.
Ruthless!, a musical farce, fast and furious, is the story of a quiet 1950s housewife, Judy, and her seemingly adorable but sociopathic 8-year-old daughter, Tina, who will do ANYTHING to get the lead role in her school play, including murdering the competition, while it is her mother who actually becomes a Broadway diva.
Ruthless! is a parody of films like The Bad Seed, Gypsy and All About Eve, with the delivery style of The Women. Please be familiar with the show and as many of these classic films as you can.
ALL characters must SING with a flair for BROAD COMEDY.
Auditions: Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 11:00 to 3:00pm and Monday, September 9,2019 from 7:00 to 9:30 pm
Character Descriptions:
Tina Denmark: Female, 8 -16 (to play 8). Appears to be a sweet child but is actually a psychotic killer. Alto Belt, MUST tap. Also has some strong language.
Judy Denmark/ Ginger Delmarco: Female, late 20-30s, DUAL ROLE, Tina’s mother (sweet 50s housewife) / Broadway prima donna (bitchy). Mezzo Soprano/Alto Belt.
Lita Encore: Female, 50s +, Ethel Merman type, strong belter with comic timing. MUST be able to sell a showstopper like a PRO!!! Contralto, Belt
Myrna Thorn: Female, 30s +, Teacher. Strong character comic timing. Alto.
Sylvia St. Croix: Male role (to play a woman) upper 40s. A broad comedy talent with a big voice. Baritone.
Louise/Eve: Female, late 20s-30s DUAL ROLE, Tina’s classmate (plays 8) / Ginger’s assistant, unhinged and ambitious (plays 30s). Mezzo.
Please come prepared with the following:
• Picture and Resume (If you are auditioning for Sylvias, please also bring a picture of yourself in drag if you have one.)
• An up-tempo jazz or musical theatre song AND a ballad; including sheet music in the correct key. You may be asked to sing both.
• Wear clothes and shoes you can move in for BOTH audition and call back. (If you are auditioning for Tina - please bring your tap shoes)
• Must provide SPECIFIC dates for ALL conflicts.
Rehearsals:
September 11 – October 31st (TBA)
Typically Monday- Thursday from 7-10 PM, with some Saturdays from 11AM–3PM (TBA)
Performances:
November 1 – December 8.
Fridays/Saturdays at 8PM
Sundays at 2PM.
