ROMEO AND JULIET - CenterStage

CenterStage in Lake Forest is seeking actors for its 2020 Shakespeare in the Parks Local Summer Tour of Romeo and Juliet. Director: Barbara J. Anderson.

CHARACTERS AVAILABLE:

MEN: Stage Age (20’s)

ROMEO: heir of the Montague family, a “virtuous and well governed youth” who is also rather sentimental; at the opening of the play, he is infatuated with a girl who is not interested in him and whom he forgets as soon as he meets Juliet. Though he may not be the “flower of courtesy,” he is “as gentle as a lamb.”

BENVOLIO: nephew to Montague, and friend to Romeo. A voice of reason and calm, a peacemaker

TYBALT: hot-tempered nephew to Lady Capulet and foil to Benvolio; “a courageous captain of compliments,” and a trained fencer who “fights by the book of arithmetic”; called the “Prince of Cats”!

WOMEN:

NURSE: (Stage Age 30-50) earthy,” well-meaning, middle-aged confidante and former Nurse of Juliet and foil to Friar Laurence as an advisor.

Time Commitment:
First Rehearsal: Early to Mid-June 2020
Opening: Saturday, August 8, 2020
Closing: Sunday, September 13, 2020

Audition Date/Time: Monday, February 10th or Wednesday, February 12th, from 6-9pm

Audition Location: The Fellowship Hall on the lower level of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, 700 Sheridan Road, Lake Forest; an 8-10-minute walk from the Union Pacific Metra North Line Train Station in downtown Lake Forest; also accessible by car via Routes 94/41 or 294.

Material To Prepare: Auditions will consist of cold reading of scenes & monologues from the play. If you have a classical monologue already prepared, please be prepared to perform it.
