REDWOOD - Bulldog Ensemble Theater

Bulldog Ensemble Theater is now casting eight roles for our production of Redwood, by Brittany K. Allen. The show will open June 6, 2024 in Durham. All artists are paid, and our preference is for local non-Equity actors.

If you're interested, please send us an email at info@bulldogdurham.org (include a headshot/resume if you have it). Auditions will be held in January 2024. We look forward to hearing from you!

Casting breakdown:

MEG (mid-20s Black woman). A middle school English teacher. Hyper-intelligent, talks a mile a minute, young and ambitious and idealistic. Slightly morbid sense of humor.

DREW (early 30s white man). Meg’s boyfriend, getting his PhD in physics. Nerdy and earnest, but also funny and sweet.

BEVERLY (early-50s Black woman). Meg’s mother. Wise but goofy at heart. Fiercely protective of her daughter.

STEVIE (early-50s gay Black man). Meg’s uncle, Beverly’s twin brother. Self-confident and dramatic, has to be right about everything. Tends to get obsessed with his projects.

INSTRUCTOR (Black man, 20s and above). Runs Stevie’s hip-hop dance class. Upbeat, but always a little weary at having to deal with difficult students.

HARRIET/HATTIE (woman of East Asian descent, 30s and above). Plays multiple roles, including Meg’s best friend and Drew’s very patient stepmother.

TATUM (white man, 30s and above). Plays multiple roles, including Drew’s WASPy father and an eager hip-hop dance student.

ALLIE/ALAMEDA (Black woman, 20s and above). Plays multiple roles, including a very enthusiastic dance student and Meg’s enslaved ancestor.
