Lower Ossington Theatre is casting all roles in our upcoming production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert

Based on the Oscar-winning movie, Priscilla is the hilarious adventure of three friends who hop aboard a battered old bus bound for the Outback to put on the show of a lifetime. Their epic journey is a heart-warming story of self-discovery, sassiness and acceptance.

This smash-hit show features a dazzling array of stunning costumes, fabulous feathers and a non-stop parade of dance-floor classics including IT’S RAINING MEN, HOT STUFF, I WILL SURVIVE, I LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE, FINALLY and many more!

Produced by: Joseph Patrick

Directed by: Alan Kinsella

Choreographed by: Lisa August

Character Breakdown– All performers may be asked to perform multiple roles.

Adam (Felicia)

Very well-maintained physical features with outstanding character acting, dance, singing and lip-synching ability essential; flashy, young drag queen and born performer with a more than occasional bitchy streak; provocative and outspoken he has a tendency to get himself into trouble with both friends and complete strangers; will also cover the male singer for Burn The Floor; played in film by Guy Pearce; tenor.

Bob

Strong acting ability with one song; a mechanic; typical laconic attitude, soft hearted Aussie bloke who spent years wandering around the world only to find he was better off where he started; has a fascination with Bernadette whom he saw perform in ‘Les Girls’ in Sydney more than twenty years ago.

Bernadette

Outstanding acting, dance, singing (range adaptable) and lip-synching ability essential; quietly dignified transgender person who must be convincing as an older woman who was once the star performer of ‘Les Girls’; mother of the group; glamorous, oozing Old Hollywood charm with rapier wit and sensitivity; must be able to be convincing and touching in her attraction and growing relationship with Bob; played in film by Terence Stamp.

Divas

Sassy and strong; lead us through some of the greatest hits of the last decades; all shapes and sizes welcome, but brilliant vocalists in the disco-belt style a must; will also be part of the female ensemble as well as cover the female singer for Burn The Floor.

Tick (Mitzi)

Outstanding acting, dance, singing and lip-synching ability essential; with an unremarkable exterior, Tick is a discontented drag queen, the best in the business; estranged husband of Marion and absent father to Benjamin, age eight, his journey from disillusionment to fulfillment through being reunited with his son is the central core of the story; played in film by Hugo Weaving; baritone-tenor.

Miss Understanding

Fabulous drag queen with great comic hosting ability; sets up the tone of the show for us; must be able to work a crowd well, and look brilliant in drag; ability to deliver Tina Turner numbers convincingly a must; character acting, dance and singing ability, mostly all ensemble pieces with one key scene.

Cynthia

Bob’s feisty Filipino wife; frustrated performer of obscure ‘stage tricks’ which make her very popular at the local pub; spends her days as a housewife looking after Bob and his home; character acting, dance and singing ability essential.

Frank

Tough miner bloke with violent tendencies; hardened resident of mining town Coober Pedy; tall, strapping and very outback Australian; character acting, dance and singing ability, mostly all ensemble pieces with one key scene.

Marion

Hotel entertainment manager in Darwin, mother of Benjamin, age eight, and estranged wife of Tick (Mitzi); strong, direct and forthright woman who takes charge, but is incredibly accepting of her role as a single mother; deep unconventional affection between her and Tick; strong singing and acting; will be required to sing and dance in ensemble numbers.

Shirley

Hardened outback bartender/waitress; good ironic comedy; character acting, dance and strong singing ability – solo and ensemble pieces.

Benji

To play a boy age 10; should have the appearance, characteristics and sensibility of a prepubescent child; cute son of Tick and his estranged wife, Marion (a hotel entertainment manager); Marion has raised Benji to be a sweet and open-minded young boy who is supportive of his Father’s lifestyle; although Tick has not seen him for many years, their reunion is pivotal and endearing; requires a good actor who sings.

Young Bernadette

The epitome of grace and glamour -- gender illusion rather than drag -- “Les Girls” at its most alluring.

Farrah

Young, beautiful and sassy drag queen; must be a brilliant mover and look stunning and believable as a woman; character acting, singing and dancing ability. Will be required to sing and dance in ensemble numbers.

Ensemble

Excellent acting, singing and dance ability; required to play a variety of ensemble characters in the production; any drag experience a plus; females, spectacular vocal ability a must.
