Penny Seats Theatre Company Announces Auditions for Three More Shows in 2017

The Penny Seats Theatre Company is thrilled to announce open auditions for the rest of its 2017 Season, consisting of its two outdoor summer shows, and an indoor show in October. Each show will run for three weeks. In June, the group will perform the World Premiere of The Renaissance Man, a comic riff on Macbeth, as told through performers at a Renaissance Faire. The show was written—and will be directed—by acclaimed Michigan playwright, Joseph Zettelmaier. In July, Phil Simmons will direct Peter and the Starcatcher, the immensely popular, clever, and sweet prequel to J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, based on the novel written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson and adapted for the stage by Rick Elice. Finally, in October, Williamston Theatre’s Tony Caselli joins the Penny Seats to stage Jeffrey Hatcher’s fabulous and chilling retelling of The Turn of the Screw, just in time for Halloween.

Auditions will be held on Sunday and Monday, February 12 and 13, 2017 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm at the Burns Park Senior Center, 1320 Baldwin Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Auditioners should prepare 2 contrasting 2-minute monologues of their choice, and bring 3 copies of a headshot and resume.

The Renaissance Man runs June 15 through July 1; Peter and the Starcatcher runs July 13 – 29; and The Turn of the Screw runs October 5 – 21. For character breakdowns of each show and additional information, visit the Penny Seats website at

All roles are paid. Auditioners may be cast in more than one show, but may only be cast in one summer show. To schedule a slot, please contact

ABOUT THE PENNY SEATS

We’re performers and players, minimalists and penny-pinchers. We think theatre should be fun and stirring, not stuffy or repetitive. We believe going to a show should not break the bank. And we find Michigan summer evenings beautiful. Thus, we produce dramas and comedies, musicals and original adaptations, classics and works by up-and-coming playwrights. We also provide cabaret shows, acting classes, and wacky improv evenings. And you can see any of our shows for the same price as a movie ticket.
