NOISES OFF - Theatre Group at SBCC

The Theatre Group at SBCC announces auditions for NOISES OFF, by Michael Frayn, directed by Rick Mokler, December 9 & 10.

The Theatre Group at SBCC will hold auditions for the hilarious comedy, NOISES OFF, on December 9 & 10 by appointment in the Garvin Theatre. Callbacks will be December 12 and rehearsals will start January 14, 2014. Performances run March 5-22, 2014 in the Garvin Theatre.

In Noises Off, we have a play within a play: a sex comedy titled Nothing On—the type of play in which young girls run about in their underwear, men drop their trousers, and many doors continually open and shut. Each of the three acts of Noises Off contains a performance of the first act of Nothing On. Act One is set at the dress rehearsal the night before opening with the cast still fumbling with entrances and exits, missed cues, misspoken lines, and bothersome props. In Act Two, the play is seen from backstage, providing a view that reveals the deteriorating personal relationships among the cast that have led to offstage shenanigans and onstage bedlam. In Act Three, we see a performance near the end of the ten-week run when personal friction has increased and everyone is anxious to be done with the play. Much of the comedy emerges from the variations in each version as off-stage chaos affects on-stage performance, with a great deal of slapstick. The play contains a good deal of physical comedy. All actors will use a British dialect.

There are nine roles available, 5 women and 4 men. For more information and to download audition scenes go to
