Open-call casting for HighTide Festival Theatre production of MOTH
launches on IdeasTap

· HighTide open up the chance to perform at Suffolk festival &
on Bush stage

Today HighTide Festival Theatre has launched an
open-call casting opportunity on the creative network IdeasTap for a
new HighTide Production: MOTH, by Australian playwright Declan Greene,
in his first European production. MOTH premieres at the HighTide
Festival Theatre in Suffolk on 2 May 2013, before transferring to the
Bush Theatre from 28 May 2013, and is presented by David Luff
Productions.

This is a rare opportunity for any actor aged over 16 to put
themselves forward for an audition with the production’s director,
Prasanna Puwanarajah, and casting director Carla Morris, via the
IdeasTap website.

IdeasTap, the online arts charity set up to support young people at
the start of their careers, opened submissions today (Monday February
11) here and auditions will take place in March. Applicants must be
members of IdeasTap, which is free to join, and upload a taped
audition before 7 March 2013 in order to be considered.

Steven Atkinson, artistic director of HighTide said: ‘We want to trial
a new, transparent casting process where actors are empowered to put
themselves forward for consideration in a completely free and open
access way. IdeasTap are the perfect partner for this as they are
focused on supporting the age bracket that MOTH requires, and their
engagement with young creative people is second to none.’

Peter De Haan, arts philanthropist and chairman of IdeasTap said:
“We’re delighted that HighTide have decided to offer this open-casting
to our network of 85,000 members. We want to empower young creatives
looking for work to kick-start their careers and connect them with
opportunities to work with leading artists. This brief will do both
and also marks our exciting new partnership with the Bush Theatre.”

MOTH features two roles for outstanding young actors. Sebastian is
“that kid” at high school. He’s weird. He smells. He’s obsessed with
comics, and talks to himself. But after a catastrophic fallout with
his only friend, Claryssa, he wakes up with a moth in a jar by his
bed, and a calling to save the souls of all humanity. And so begins
the Passion of Sebastian: a journey into a terrifying and starless
night. A full casting brief for Sebastian and Claryssa will be
featured on the IdeasTap website.

The Bush Theatre, where MOTH will transfer, this week joined HighTide
Festival Theatre and other leading arts organisations connected with
the IdeasTap partner programme, which facilitates opportunities for
young creative people at the start of their careers to work with top
industry talent.
