Audition Call Equity and Non-Union Call Man of La Mancha Music by Mtich Leigh Lyrics by Joe Darion Book by Dale Wasserman Director Sean Murray Music Director Shane Simmons Cygnet Theatre is looking to cast actors who are strong singers for our upcoming production of Man of La Mancha. Auditions are being held on Monday April 2 and Tuesday April 3, starting at 5pm both days, by appointment only at the Old Town Theatre located at 4040 Twiggs Street San Diego CA 92110. Callbacks will be held in the evening on Monday and Tuesday April 9 and 10 at the Cygnet rehearsal space located at 7202 El Cajon Blvd Ste B, San Diego CA 92115. Headshot and resume please. Please prepare a brief musical theatre song of your choice (songs from the show are acceptable). Please bring sheet music in the CORRECT KEY. An accompanist will be provided. To request an audition appointment, please send an email to auditions@cygnettheatre.com by March 31 with the following information: 1) Your name 2) Your contact phone number 3) AEA status 4) Day and hour you would like to audition 5) Which character you would like to audition for 6) A digital copy of your headshot and resume Please do not send multiple emails, your email request will be returned as soon as possible. OR You may show up at the theater on the days of the audition starting at 4pm to sign up for any remaining audition spots. All actors hired will agree to work as a local actor. Rehearsals start June 5, 2012, previews begin July 5, opens July 14 and closes August 26 (may extend to September 2). There is pay for non-union actors. Open Roles: The following roles have been cast: Don Quixote/Cervantes, Manservant/Sancho Panza, Housekeeper/Innkeeper’s Wife, Duke/Carrasco, Antonia, and 3 Muleteers (including Barber) ALDONZA/DULCINEA: 25 – 30. Strong willed survivor who has a bitter view of life. She plays Aldonza in the story within the story, where her world view is challenged when Quixote treats her with deep respect and honor. She discovers an inner nobility. Soprano: low Ab to high Ab. Open to all ethnic types. GOVERNOR/INNKEEPER: 30-65. Two roles: The Governor is the de-facto leader presiding over the prisoners being held. He is a gruff man with self-proclaimed authority taking no prisoners. He plays the Innkeeper in the story within the story. A strong man who handles many rough types staying at his inn, but one that has a sympathetic and kind heart. Bass: low G to C#. PADRE: 30s to 50s. The family cleric with a kind heart. He aims to assist the family in dealing with Quixote’s madness but tries to steer them into taking care of him with compassion. Tenor: F to high G. PEDRO, the head muleteer: 20-35. The rough and fiery leader of the band of muleteers who are staying at the inn. He is a commanding leader who is brutal and ruthless. Looking for a strong, fit and athletic actor who can move well. Stage combat experience would be nice. Baritone: low D to D. MULETEER: A rough, rowdy Lieutenant to Pedro. A second in command who can be dangerous and ruthless. Looking for a strong, fit, athletic actor who can move well. Stage combat experience would be nice. Tenor A to high F#.
