Announcing Auditions for

Making God Laugh

December 13 & 14, 2019

Center Stage Jackson is excited to announce auditions for its dinner theatre production of Making God Laugh by Sean Grennan, directed by Chelsea Phillips.

Auditions will be held on Friday December 13th from 6:00pm-8:00pm and Saturday December 14th from 12:00pm-2:00pm at Jackson's First Presbyterian Church, 743 W. Michigan Avenue, Jackson, Michigan 49201. Parking and entrance are located at the rear of the church.

Making God Laugh follows one American family over the course of thirty years’ worth of holidays. Starting in 1980, Ruthie and Bill’s grown children — a priest, an aspiring actress, and a former football star — all return home, where we learn of their plans and dreams as they embark on their adult lives. The empty-nester parents contend with their own changes, too, as old family rituals are trotted out and ancient tensions flare up. As time passes, the family discovers that, despite what we may have in mind, we often arrive at unexpected destinations.

Performances of Making God Laugh will be held February 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, March 1, 6, 7, and 8, 2020 at Jackson's Sandhill Crane Vineyards, 4724 Walz Rd. Jackson, Michigan 49201. Dinner begins at 7:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays with performances starting at 8:00pm. Dinner begins at 4:00pm for Sunday matinees, with performances starting at 5:00pm.

This production calls for five adults: 3 males and 2 females. Ages are flexible, as both parents and all three adults children will age thirty years over the course of the play. All levels of experience are welcome.Auditioning actors may prepare a short monologue, though it is not required. Auditions will consist of optional monologues, group improv exercises, and cold readings. Auditioning actors should bring their calendar of obligations for December 15, 2019 through March 8, 2020.

One read-through will be held in December (to be determined based on cast availability). Regular rehearsals will start in January, and actors should expect a mix of weeknight (evening) and weekend (daytime) rehearsals. The rehearsal schedule will be based on the availability of the cast. Rehearsals will be held either at Jackson’s First Presbyterian Church or Spring Arbor University (depending on cast availability) until early February when rehearsals will move to the Sandhill Crane Vineyards (4724 Walz Rd. in Jackson).
