Starlight is thrilled to announce auditions for the new upcoming production of Legally Blonde The Musical will be held Saturday, January 28, and Sunday, January 29, at the historic theatre in Swope Park. The musical will be produced by Starlight and directed and choreographed by Broadway veteran Nicole Snelson, who originated the role of Brooke Wyndham in the original 2007 Broadway production.
“Legally Blonde is a high-energy, fast-paced musical, and we’re looking for talent to match that,” Rich Baker, Starlight President + C.E.O. and Legally Blonde Executive Producer, said. “Our community is full of stellar performers, and when Starlight produces and casts a professional production like this, it’s wonderful to showcase the level of talent that is here in our region alongside those that come from New York or elsewhere.”
Adult auditions will take place Sunday, January 28, while teen ensemble auditions will be held Sunday, January 29. To audition for the teen ensemble, students must either attend a Blue Star Awards participating school or be involved in another Community Engagement program at Starlight and be between the ages of 15-18 years at the time of auditions.
“This is a rare opportunity for Starlight’s Blue Star Awards students to perform alongside the professionals in the cast,” Caroline Gibel, Starlight’s Director of Programming, said. “Starlight is proud to be able to offer this invaluable learning experience to student dancers who seek an opportunity to work in professional theatre.”
Pre-registration for both adult and teen ensemble auditions is required. The official Audition Notice, which includes audition requirements and more information on roles included in casting, can be found at kcstarlight.com/auditions. By agreement with Actors’ Equity Association, Equity members must be given audition priority over non-union talent. Non-union talent will be seen as time allows after Equity members.
For the first time, Starlight will also accept video submissions alongside in-person auditions. Preparation and submission instructions can be found online at kcstarlight.com/auditions. Starlight encourages performers to attend in-person auditions, but if it is not possible, video submissions will be accepted.
