Kumu Kahua Theatre Holds an Audition Workshop and Auditions

WHAT: Auditions for Koi, Like the Fish by Keali‘iwahine Hokoana

Open auditions will be held to cast the upcoming production of Koi, Like the Fish by Keali‘iwahine Hokoana at Kumu Kahua Theatre. The show will be directed by Wil Kahele and Justin Fragiao.

A young woman, her husband and child move in to her ailing uncle’s house to take care of him. Originally produced on Maui in 2008, this play takes an unflinchingly realistic look at the problems of families living together.

Rehearsals may begin as early as Monday, March 31; the show runs May 29 - June 29, 2014, with possible extension dates running through July 6, 2014.

Directors Kahele and Fragiao are looking for 6 actors to play these roles:

KOI - 62 year old local male

Yosepha Yo - 35 year-old local female, niece / caregiver of Koi

Jamie - 26 year-old local female, postal carrier

Guy - 20 year-old local male, son of Koi

Bryce - 30 something local male, husband of Yosepha

Sophie - 52 year-old female, Koi's ex-girlfriend, Guy's mother

Auditions will be held at the Kumu Kahua Theatre, on the corner of Merchant and Bethel Streets. The entrance into Kumu Kahua Theatre is from the small park on the Merchant Street side. Auditions will consist of readings from the script, and some movement exercises. Please dress accordingly. Auditioners may come either day, but should come early and may be asked to stay for the whole time.

There will be a free audition workshop held from 6:00-8:00 pm, March 2, 2014, also at Kumu Kahua Theatre. This workshop is an opportunity for all interested to work with the script and learn first-hand from the production directors what they are looking for.

Scripts are available for loan with a $10 cash deposit at the Kumu Kahua Theatre office weekdays between 11am and 3pm–please call 536-4222 before coming to the theatre.
