About The Show

Kinky Boots tells the story of Charlie Price, a factory owner struggling to save his family business. Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with cabaret performer and drag queen Lola to produce a line of high-heeled boots to continue his father’s legacy and save the business. In the process, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not so different after all. Renowned singer and songwriter, Cyndi Lauper, and Tony Award-winning theatre legend, Harvey Fierstein, team up as composer and playwright to tell an incredible story that Broadway had never seen before.

  • 9AM until 12Noon – Principal Characters (Charlie, Lola/Simon, Nicola, Lauren, Don)

  • 12Noon until 1PM – The Angels

  • 1PM until 4PM – Ensemble (includes, but not limited to: Young Charlie, Young Simon Pat, Trish, George, Mr. Price, Simon Sr., Harry, Richard Bailey)

Audition Notes

  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the called start time to complete audition forms and check-in. Auditions will include vocal/music, dance and reading.

  • Performers of all ethnicities are encouraged to attend.

  • SING: Singers will need to perform two (2) contrasting musical theatre pieces (16-32 bars). You must exude enough vocal stamina to successfully execute particular musical role throughout rehearsals and the show. You may bring prerecorded music (your device, phone, etc) speakers will be provided. No pianist provided. Singers auditioning for principle roles may be asked to sing a selection from the show.

  • ACT: No prepared monologues/pieces required. Most selected sides are provided for principal characters, however cold readings from the script are possible.

  • Provide a current resume and a headshot IF available.

  • CALLBACKS (if needed): 1PM-3PM, Sunday, May 1, 2022

  • Rehearsal days typically: Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays (beginning May 29, 2022). Not all cast members are called on all days.

Roles Available

  • Charlie Price (Tenor C3-B4) –(stage age 25-35), a leading man, he is privileged, but likable, his father owns the shoe factory; he is handsome and loveable but there is a temper right under his skin; must have a great rock voice, ability to move, and be a strong actor.
  • Lola/Simon (Tenor C3-B4) –(stage age 30-35), an emotionally and physically challenging role that requires the soul of a Diva, a la Whitney Houston; must-have star presence and feel comfortable wearing everything from full glamour as a scene-stealing drag performer to nothing but boxing trunks; must have a killer voice with power blues and gospel chops; strong comedic actor. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent
  • Don (Baritone C3-F4) – (stage age 20-40), Lola’s nemesis. Burly hypermasculine bear of a factory worker with a menacing physicality.
  • Nicola (Mezzo-Soprano Bb3/Gb5) – (stage age 20-30), Charlie’s long-term girlfriend; sophisticated looks; she is a social climber, driven and uncompromising; she knows what she wants and goes for it; must have a great pop voice.
  • Lauren (Mezzo-Soprano Bb3/Gb5) –(stage age 20-30), quirky (not glamorous like Nicola) working-class girl who works in the shoe factory; funny and smart but has had bad luck with men; terrific comedic actress.
  • Young Charlie (Tenor G3/D4) – a young Charlie around 8-12 years old. Lost, quiet, reflective.
  • Young Simon (Tenor G2/D4) – Lola as an 8-12-year-old boy who already knows he’s destined to wear high heels. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent
  • Pat – (stage age 20-40), Officious office manager who will let loose her wild side when allowed. Lola’s love interest.
  • Trish – (stage age 20-40), Factory worker with a husband and kids to worry over.
  • George – (stage age 30-50), Factory manager keeping up traditions. Reserved.
  • Mr. Price –(stage age 50-80), Charlie’s father.
  • Simon Sr. – (stage age 30-50), Lola’s father. An unforgiving tower of anger.
  • Harry – (stage age 25-40), A contemporary of Charlie’s but his opposite. Successful, self-aware and confident.
  • Richard Bailey – (stage age 30-50), Nicola’s boss. An overtly attractive and successful man.
  • The Angels (Tenor C3/A4) – The drag performers who populate The Blue Angel Nightclub. The angels are an integral part of the show with big personalities. Must be willing to sing and dance in full drag with heels.
  • Ensemble (All vocal ranges, 20-50s) – must be excellent pop/rock singers; they will cover featured ensemble roles as well as play factory workers, pub patrons, etc.; factory workers should look like real, everyday people and be able to move very well. The ensemble will also understudy principal roles.
