JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH - North Texas Performing Arts

North Texas Performing Arts - PAGE TO STAGE is looking for diverse, non-union actors over the age of 18, and a high school graduate, to star in their Daytime Theatre for Young Audiences production of James and the Giant Peach. All actors must have daytime availability.

Show Title: James and the Giant Peach (Adapted for the stage by David Wood. A play with music)

Audition Dates/Times: Tuesday, June 11, 1:00-4:00 PM and Thursday, June 13, 1:00-4:00 PM
Callback Dates/Times: Friday, June 14, 1:00-4:00 PM
Audition Requirements: Prepare and memorize a one minute Theatre for Young Audiences monologue and a one minute musical theatre song. If you play a musical instrument, please bring it and play a short song on it.

Rehearsal Dates/Times: Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM, starting July 8 (come to the first rehearsal memorized!) Final Tech will be Monday, July 22. *Rehearsals may be added or extended should actors come to rehearsal late or unprepared.

Character Breakdown:

JAMES - our young hero; from a downtrodden, lonely child, he develops into a brave “captain” of the insect band; he acts as narrator, too. A2 to A4

OLD-GREEN-GRASSHOPPER - elderly, genial, courteous, avuncular, musical; he helps narrate (THE ROLE OF THE GRASSHOPPER HAS BEEN CAST.) A2 to A4

MISS SPIDER - occasionally sharp, even a little sinister, but ultimately kind, her marathon threat-spinning to help save the peach is truly heroic. A3 to A5

CENTIPEDE - a sparky, cocky, warm-hearted Jack-the-lad. A2 to A4

LADYBIRD - posh though not prissy, pretty though not vain, volatile though level-headed. A3 to A5

EARTHWORM - not only blind, but a pessimist, a doom merchant whose standing in the group and whose self-esteem improves no end, thanks to James. A2 to A4

Other Information

All actors will be expected to show up to the first rehearsal memorized. All actors cast will be responsible for every aspect of the production, including load-in and out of all props, costumes and set pieces. The actors may be asked to help find costume and prop pieces for the production. All actors will be paid a flat rate rehearsal stipend of $200, and an additional $35 per performance. All actors will report to the performance locations via their own transportation and therefore must have reliable transportation. All rehearsals and performances will be held during the day- actors who are unavailable during the day should not audition. Please note that all rehearsals, tech rehearsals, and performances are mandatory. Actors who fail to be on time on a regular basis or make all of the rehearsals will be compensated less than the above rate.
