HAIRSPRAY - Boebe Productions at Laguna Playhouse

Open Call and Submissions for a appointment for a Non AEA production of Hairspray to be performed at Laguna Playhouse. Laguna Beach, CA. Rehearsals: June 16-July 5, opens July 5th, closes July 30th with possible extension to August 6th. Must be available for all rehearsals and performances. Seeking performers who have their own transportation and housing commutable to Laguna Beach, California. Paula Sloan Director/Choreographer.

Auditions and callbacks will be held Friday, February 10th, Saturday, February 11th and Sunday February 12th . in Lake Forest, CA. Open calls will be November 10th and 11th starting at 10 am: The Audition will be held at Positive Energy Dance Studio, Address: 22600-C Lambert St, Lake Forest, CA 92630. Also include any conflicts in time for that weekend if submitting. All Actors 18 and over are paid. HIgh School Age may be considered for unpaid Apprentice positions.

Please prepare 16 bars in the style of Hairspray or from the show, have contrasting available. Dance call will be the same day. bring dance clothes and sneakers or jazz shoes. Bring tracks s and accompanist will not be provided.

Note: all characters must dance well and attend a dance call except Edna, Wilbur, Male Authority figure/Mr. Pinky, Female Authority figure/Prudy Pingleton. Velma

Our story's unsuspecting protagonist, she is large and in charge. Confident, talented, full figured, and incredibly determined. A romantic with a good heart and desire to cut up the dance floor. Always on top of the latest trends.

The charismatic host of the Corny Collins' Show. Good looking and smooth talking, he is a genuinely nice guy both on and off camera.

Edna Turnblad

Tracy's big and blonde mother. She is a working housewife who has lost her confidence and dream to be a plus-size clothing designer. Boisterous and commanding. Played by a male in drag.

Penny Pingleton

Tracy's best friend and dorky sidekick. Not the brightest girl, but she has good intentions/. Bursting to get free of her mother's dominating control, she falls for Seaweed with childlike curiosity. Very strong pop belter., strong comic skills, quirky and awkward.

Velma Von Tussle

Amber's mother and the director of Corny Collin's show. She is a devious taskmaster and snobby racist. The former Miss Baltimore Crabs will go to any length to ensure her daughter is the next big thing. Sexy, beautiful, commanding.

Amber Von Tussle

Link's girlfriend and Tracy's nemesis. She is pretty, thin, shallow, snobby, and racist. Can't dance but is expected to win Miss Baltimore Hairspray. Always feels the need to be the center of attention.

Link Larkin

The star heartthrob on Corny Collins' show. He is extremely attractive and talented. Hoping to get his big break with a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy.

Seaweed J. Stubbs

Tracy's classmate and friend, who is discriminated against due to his skin color. He is cocky but surprisingly lovable. Talented in song and dance. He falls for Penny.

Little Inez – Daughter of Motormouth, African American, fun, petite, strong singer dancer.

African American female – Age 10-25 but must convincingly play a younger child or preteen.



Motormouth Maybelle

Seaweed and Little Inez's mother, she also appears as the Guest DJ on the Corny Collin's Negro Day show. Big, blonde, beautiful and proud of it. She is sassy, sexy and confident.

Corny Collins' Kids (Tammy, Brad, Brenda, Sketch, Shelley, Etc.); Detention Students; Hookers; Protestors 15-30. Must sing and dance well and may understudy. All ethnicities.
