ELVIS: The Musical will explore pivotal moments in Elvis’s life taking audiences on a journey from the star’s impoverished childhood in Tupelo, Mississippi to his triumphant 1968 “Comeback Special,” and ultimate assent to “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
Characters:
ELVIS PRESLEY: Caucasian Male. The King of Rock and Roll. A good-looking leading man. Great singer. Age 19-33. Vocal Type: Tenor.
YOUNG ELVIS: Caucasian Male. Strong actor and singer. Age: 10 (Can play 10 years old.) Vocal Type: Tenor.
GLADYS PRESLEY: Caucasian Female. Elvis’ mother and closest person in his life. Strong, Southern Woman. Overly-doting on Elvis but doesn’t put up with any BS. Strong Actor. Age: 33-46
SAM PHILLIPS: Caucasian Male. Elvis’ first producer. Outspoken, tough but sensitive southern man. Had a true ear and passion for authentic music, especially “Rockabilly.” Strong actor. Age 21-25
SCOTTY MOORE: Caucasian Male. Elvis’ first lead guitarist. Also, should be good straight-comedic actor. Age: 22-35
BILL BLACK: Caucasian Male. Elvis’ first bass player. A real goofball. The yin to Scotty’s yang. Age 18-31
ENSEMBLE TRACK 1-9: 4 (2 African American, 2 Caucasian) Male and 5 (2 African American, 3 Caucasian) Female roles. Multiple characters within each role, ages 20-50. Vocal Types: Baritone, Tenor, Alto, and Pop Soprano.
