AUDITION DATES: August 28 & 29, 2023 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm

Callbacks (if needed): Wednesday August 30, 2023 from 7:30pm – 9:30pm

  • Auditions will be held at Artisan Center Theater located at 444 East Pipeline Road, Hurst, TX 76053

  • Rehearsals begin September 4, 2023 and are generally Mondays, Tuesdays, (no Wednesdays) Thursdays and Fridays from 6:30pm – 9:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am – 1:00pm (Not everyone will be called to all rehearsals)

PRODUCTION DATES:

October 20 - November 11, 2023 performances will be Thursdays and Fridays at 6:30pm, and Saturdays at 11:30am and 1:30pm.

AUDITIONS:

  • Please prepare 16-32 bars (60 seconds or less) of a song that best suits your vocal ability.

  • Please bring your accompaniment on a track, as an accompanist will not be provided. Singing acapella is discouraged.

  • There may be a dance component to the audition at call-backs for certain roles (bring appropriate footwear and dress to move)

  • Actors will be doing cold readings from the script.

  • Roles may be double cast depending on actor availability.

  • If you are unable to attend, please send an audition video to auditions@artisanct.com You will still be required to complete all digital paperwork and come to callbacks in person if requested.

Please see the registration link for the conflict calendar. It is critical that you let Artisan Center Theater know all of your conflicts when you register to audition. Artisan Center Theater will be unable to accept conflicts after casting is done unless they are emergencies.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

Dear Edwina JR. follows the adventures of plucky advice-giver-extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple, as she directs the neighborhood kids in a series of buoyant production numbers for the latest edition of her weekly “Advice-a-Palooza.” Edwina and her friends share wisdom on everything from trying new foods to making new friends, through clever, catchy and poignant songs.


ROLES AVAILABLE:

We encourage performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, body types, ages, as well as performers with disabilities, to audition.

Edwina Spoonapple - The creator, director and choreographer of The Dear Edwina Show and is the main-staple of the play. Female. Mezzo-Soprano.

Becky - Edwina's enthusiastic friend and the top of the cheerleading pyramid for the Paw Paw Wildcats. Female. Any vocal range.

Scott - A neighbor boy who is helplessly in love with Edwina. He dotes on her every move and is always conniving a way to gain her attention. Male. Tenor

Kelli - Edwina's neighbor and Paw Paw, Michigan's resident ballerina. Female. Any vocal range.

Bobby - Edwina's new next-door neighbor. He is a friendly and compassionate character who goes out of his way to help others. Male. Any vocal range.

Lars Vanderploonk - One of the Vanderploonk triplets and a neighborhood friend of Edwina. He is incredibly accident-prone. Male. Any vocal range.

Billy Vanderploonk - One of the Vanderploonk triplets and a neighborhood friend of Edwina. He works double duty on The Dear Edwina Show by performing onstage and serving as Box Office Manager. Male. Any vocal range.

Cordell Vanderploonk - One of the Vanderploonk triplets and a neighborhood friend of Edwina. He works double duty in The Dear Edwina Show by performing onstage and serving as House Manager. Male. Any vocal range.

Annie - Edwina's friend and the Girl Scout of Paw Paw. Annie works for and collects her Girl Scout badges like they were buried treasure. Female. Any vocal range.

Aphrodite, Carrie, Abigail, Periwinkle, Ziggy & The Marching Band - The 'letter readers' in The Dear Edwina Show. Any Gender. Mezzo-Soprano.

Vladimir - Edwina's scary uncle from afar. Vladimir's lines are written with a Transylvanian Dracula accent in mind. Male. Baritone.

Frank - A rude, self-centered, bratty, offensive, disrespectful, socially inept child and the subject of Vladimir's song, Frankenguest. Male. Any vocal range.

Chef Ludmillam, William, Sonoma, Fairy Forkmother - Part of a team to instruct the rest of the company on how to set a table in Fork, Knife, Spoon. Any Gender. Any vocal range.

Susie & The Napkins - Susie and The Napkins are a local band who have just come from a Battle of the Bands concert at the Paw Paw Community Center to sing Say No Thank You. Johnny and The Queen act out the story in the lyrics. Any Gender. Any vocal range.

Lola - New to America, Lola expresses her shyness in the song, Hola, Lola. It would be helpful if this actor speaks Spanish. Female. Alto.

Harry - Lola's cousin and the reason she flies from Lima, Peru, to Honolulu. He is a fun, happy-go-lucky character who just wants to make sure his favorite cousin is having a good time. Male. Tenor.

Katie Spoonapple - Edwina's little sister and a math wiz. Female. Any vocal range.

ABOUT THE THEATER:

Artisan Center Theater produces year round, full scale Broadway style musicals in their 195-seat theater-in-the-round. On Second Stage, Artisan Children's Theater produces children's shows each year where children perform for children.
