The Omaha Community Playhouse (OCP) is holding auditions for the upcoming special event DragOn on Sunday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m. and Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at OCP. This special event is part of OCP’s Alternative Programming series.

In this unique comedy, a fledgling drag queen must go through the tests and trials of legendary cosplay divas to find her swagger. An ode to both geek and drag cultures, this refreshingly original piece gives the audience a front row seat to what happens when you combine equal parts fantasy adventure, comic book convention, and drag show.
This is a show about being fearless. All auditioning actors are welcome to bring high heels and present their best strut. Please be prepared to move and cold read. Additionally, though not required, if you would like to create a 30-45 second lip sync routine to “Sissy That Walk” by RuPaul, you may. It will not affect your casting if you don’t. Expect fun, laughs, and fabulousness. This audition will be the hottest party in town!

Character Breakdown:
Bobbi
Age: 20s
Gender: Male identifying
Bobbi is the heart of the show. A fledgling drag queen who embarks on a quest to save The Fierce from The Beige Side. Should be able to start shy and confused and turn into a fully-fledged queen by the end.
The Mother of Drag
Age: Ageless
Gender: Every
The Mother of Drag is, as she titles herself, the “Dothraki” of drag. She is the Daenerys Targaryen meets RuPaul Charles meets glamazon who once reigned over the Glitter Throne during the time of peace. She should be commanding and endearing. A warrior, a fighter, and a lover all in one.
Cat Lady
Age: Any
Gender: Any
Cat Lady should be an excellent mover. She gets one of the feature lip sync numbers of the show. She should be lithe and sexy, whatever your interpretation of that may be.
Space Princess
Age: Any
Gender: Any
Space Princess needs to be comfortable owning her legacy. She is a general and don’t you forget it! May be in a gold bikini. Does not necessarily need to do a full lip sync number, but if the performer is able, we could absolutely do one.
Weather Mutant
Age: Any
Gender: Any
Weather Mutant should be able to move well. Another featured lip sync number. She should be fierce and furious, like a hurricane.
Amazon Warrior
Age: Any
Gender: Any
Should move well. Wonderfully even. She is there to whip Bobbi into shape. Gets a featured lip sync number.
The Doctor
Age: Any
Gender: Any
Should feel like a freight train speeding down the tracks. Arrives to give Bobbi instructions on how to ascend to her rightful place on The Glitter Throne, and then, like so many times before, disappears.
The Gatekeeper
Age: 40s-50s
Gender: Male Identifying
The epitome of The Beige Side. A very plain man with a secret past.
Actors only need to attend one of the audition dates to be considered for a role. Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script provided at auditions. If special accommodations are needed, please contact OCP prior to auditions.
