Kumu Kahua Theatre Holds an Audition Workshop and Auditions for Buffalo'ed

Open auditions will be held to cast the Hawai'i premiere of Buffalo'ed by Jeannie Barroga. The show will be directed by Reb Beau Allen and runs January 26 through February 26, 2016.
The Buffalo Soldiers were primarily in the U.S. cavalry assembled during the Civil War. Their bravery impressed everyone and they were ‘invited’ to participate in more wars for ‘freedom’ world wide: Spanish-American War, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Cuba, then Hawai‘i and Alaska, the Boxer Rebellion, and the Philippine War for Independence.
Told through the conduit of a wide range of theatrical tropes, this is a timely story of a part of history that needs to be told: the Filipino and African-American experience at the hands of “manifest destiny.”
There will be a free audition workshop held from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Saturday October 29, also at Kumu Kahua Theatre. This workshop is an opportunity for all interested to work with the script and director, and learn the best way to prepare for this audition.

Filipino/Filipino-American:
1. LUISA Filipina, mid- to late-20s, insurrecto from the provinces; pretending to be a Lady
2. PORFIRIO Filipino, early 30s, insurrecto leader, illustrado; as 'servant' goes by 'Firio pretending to be crippled
African-American:
3. DAVID FAGEN African-American: actor can be as young as mid-20s, cavalry, narrator/chorus-type role; ageless
4. WOODRUFF African-American, mid- 30s, cavalry,?Well-read, somewhat annoying
5. LINC African-American, late 48-51, cavalry,?A leader in groups, married to Della
6. DELLA (in Oregon) African-American: late 30s, Linc’s wife,?A teacher, mother of 3, her letters are?Dramatized dialogue with Linc
Caucasian:
7. SGT. TOM CONNOR Caucasian men: 48-49, Sargeant, lifer (older) buffers between Captain and soldiers; supervises 'Firio
8. CAPTAIN CALVIN TERRY 38-41, supports Manifest Destiny, symbolizes pro-imperialism
