Auditions for Big Fish, the Musical

book by John August and music/lyrics by Andrew Lippa

Big Noise Theatre Company, a division of Winnetka Theatre, is seeking male and female singer/actors for their Spring production of Big Fish, the Musical. Auditions are Monday, January 16 between 7pm and 10pm and Tuesday, January 17 between 7pm and 10pm. Callbacks, if needed, are Thursday, January 19th. Auditions are at Prairie Lakes Theater, 515 E Thacker, Des Plaines, IL.

Big Fish, the Musical will perform at Prairie Lakes Theater, Des Plaines from April 21 to 30, 2017. Rehearsals will commence in late February/early March. Please bring a headshot/resume and prepare 32 bars from a song in the style of the show. You may sing from the show. An accompanist will be provided. Sign up at for time slot at

Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed Tim Burton film, Big Fish centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest. Edward's incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him. Overflowing with humor and heart, Big Fish is an extraordinary recent Broadway musical.

Director Courtney Crouse, Choreographer Annie Snow, and Music Director Christie Chiles Twillie seek the following:

Edward Bloom (35-60). A charming, charismatic storyteller. Plays ages ranging from young father to older sick man. Principal role: singer and some dance.
Sandra Bloom (25-55). Patient and calm – the perfect balance to Edward’s enthusiasm. Ballad voice. Very little movement.
Will Bloom (20-30). An earnest, serious, thoughtful young man wanting to reconnect with his storytelling father. Strong tenor voice. No dance.
Josephine/ Ensemble (18-30). Will’s wife, successful, sweet, and intelligent, Often on stage, actress with good voice and some movement.

Karl the Giant/Ensemble (18-40). Edward’s best friend. A shy, exceptionally intelligent hermit. He needs a booming voice and large personality. Needs to be relatively tall, but not a “giant.” Bass voice. Ability to walk on stilts.
Young Will/Will’s Son (Age 8-12) Good actor with good voice and movement.
Amos Calloway / Mayor of Ashton/Ensemble (actor ages 30-50). ) Amos is the rather eccentric, quirky owner of the circus that employs young Edward. He also happens to be a werewolf (in Edward’s tales).

Witch/Ensemble (female, age 20-40). Commanding performer with great confidence and storytelling ability.
Jenny Hill/Ensemble (female, actress as young Jenny). Fresh faced actress who is a vocal belter and a good mover.
Mermaid/Ensemble (Various Ensemble roles) –Actress with strong voice and who is also an excellent dancer.
Don Price/ensemble (male actor ages 20-45) Cocky handsome bully, Sandra’s first fiancé, good voice and good movement.
Zacky Price / Ensemble (male, actor ages 20-45).

  • (male/female, adults) 5-7 singers/dancers/other supporting roles
