BEDSIDE MANNERS - Milnerton Players

AUDITION NOTICE
Milnerton Playhouse - Saturday 21 August @ 13h00 for 13h30
BEDSIDE MANNERS by Derek Benfield

While theatres are opening cautiously Milnerton Players are also looking ahead positively with a new play planned for November. If you have been desperate to get back on the community theatre stage now is your chance as auditions for 'Bedside Manners' a fast, frenetic and furiously funny farce by Derek Benfield take place on Saturday August 21 from 13h00.

And the story? Two married couples scheme to meet – not with their respective spouses, but with clandestine lovers – for a weekend of (hopefully) uncomplicated physical activity. The venue is a remote hotel, badly managed, and currently under the chaotic supervision of the owner's outrageously camp brother. As the who-is-who and who-sleeps-in-what room unfolds, it becomes clear that disaster is unavoidable.

With five characters: Roger with mistress Sally, Geoff with mistress Helen and Ferris, the acting hotel manager, the parts are large. There is no “waiting in the wings” time for any of the characters. Ferris is the catalyst, as he navigates the two hapless couples through their respective doomed dalliances.
As director Johann van der Merwe notes, 'Character appropriate” will be my yardstick in allocating the parts, rather than 'age appropriate'; as well as matching up the respective couples. After all even older people may commit adultery! The couples need to convince the audience that they are indeed 'up to it'. It's important to note that Sally and Helen need to look appropriately provocative in a negligèè for a few brief scenes and Roger and Geoff would have to feel comfortable to appear without their trousers for a few scenes (Mr SA legs are not required. Thin, hairy legs will do)
If you think you can meet these requirements and the farce pre-requisites of agility, speed, timing and clear diction then contact Johann van der Merwe at:

Social distancing and all COVID protocols will be observed during the audition.
The play would run from 12 to 27 November with three rehearsals per week once casting is confirmed.
THIS IS A COMMUNITY THEATRE PRODUCTION WITH NO REMUNERATION INVOLVED
