9 to 5: THE MUSICAL - Elkhart Civic Theatre

Elkhart Civic Theatre is proud to announce auditions for the regional premier of the new Broadway musical, 9 to 5: The Musical, on December 16 at 3pm and December 18 at 7pm at the Bristol Opera House in Bristol, IN. This brand new, light-hearted musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick, brings the original 1979 movie to life on the stage.

Violet, Judy and Doralee find themselves inadvertently holding their domineering and lecherous boss captive. Attempts to keep the office unaware of his absence while implementing new procedures work well until he manages to escape. But just when it seems they have failed, fate steps in. Please be aware that 9 to 5: The Musical does contain some adult language and subject matter.

The principle characters are as follows: Violet (Lilly Tomlin)-Alto with strong head voice: Head of the office and a take charge woman with amazing ideas that might get her into trouble. Doralee (Dolly Parton)-gutsy soprano with country-western flair: A straight shooter with a heart of gold and tired of being man-handled. Judy (Jane Fonda)-Alto with great chest voice: Mousy divorcee who’s starting over in life. Eventually finds a way to break out of her shell and live her own life. Franklin Hart Jr. (Dabney Coleman)-lyrical baritone: The President of Consolidated Industries, this egotistical womanizer is about to meet his match in the women he has hired. Roz-Alto: Mr. Hart’s personal assistant, and idolizer, she’ll do whatever is necessary to protect the man she “stalks”-uh-loves. Joe-High Baritone: Violet’s new-found boyfriend. Helps her realize it’s ok to open her heart to love. Josh-Violet’s teenage son. Tinsworthy-The older owner of Consolidated Industries who’s surprised and pleased by some of the changes taking place in his business.

There are many great character roles in the show to be cast through the ensemble of 6 women, 6 men.
