New Jersey’s first professional production of the musical about four down-on-their-luck Broadway stars who shake up a small Indiana town as they rally behind a teen who wants to go to the prom with her girlfriend. Nominated for six Tony Awards, the New York Times called the show “such a joyful hoot….it makes you believe in musical comedy again.” The Axelrod Performing Arts Center is located in Deal Park, N.J., just 5 minutes from downtown Asbury Park, with plenty of free parking.

Sirius XM host Seth Rudetsky is bringing his Broadway concert series to the Axelrod Performing Arts Center, just five minutes from Asbury Park. On Saturday, June 3 at 8 p.m., Rudetsky is teaming up with Tony Award-winner Beth Leavel (The Prom, The Drowsy Chaperone, Mamma Mia!) for a one-night-only concert filled with intimate, funny, behind-the-scenes stories along with incredible performances of the songs Leavel has performed on Broadway and beyond.

The Axelrod Performing Arts Center will present A MONKEY AND ME: STORIES I NEVER TOLD MY MOTHER, a new musical comedy by New Jersey playwright, composer and lyricist Jonathan Brielle Holtzman, from June 24-30. In this show, Holtzman portrays himself opposite TV and Broadway legend Tovah Feldshuh as his mother. It also stars the award-winning actress, Veanne Cox, as his “monkey.”

New Jersey Theatre Alliance was founded in 1981 by five professional theatres on the belief that the theatre community is stronger united, not divided, and that one theatre’s success is a success for all. Today we serve 20 Equity Producing member theatres, 11 Associate Equity member theatres, and 9 Affiliate member theatres, representing 13 of the state’s 21 counties.
