Written by Jones Hope WootenDirected by Eric MorrisThis touching comedy centers around five Southern women who became friends on their college swim team. The group sets aside a long weekend every August to recharge their relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. The play begins 22 years after they graduate from college. "The Dixie Swim Club" focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce and aging) that life flings at them. And when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives in the second act, these friends, proving the enduring power of 'teamwork', rally around their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction. It is really a study in friendship and how it grows and changes through the years. Jones Hope Wooten are the authors of Golden Girls and Savannah Sipping Society

Old Log Theatre Frequently Asked Questions FAQ

Old Log Theatre is at 5185 Meadville Street, Excelsior, MN, Excelsior, MN.

As the Northwest's first professional theatre, the Old Log was originally a summer stock company which opened in 1940 in a log stable. Thirteen shows were presented in thirteen weeks at that time. Don Stolz joined the company in 1941 as and actor and resident director and purchased the theatre company in 1946. During the next two decades the Old Log Theatre established a loyal following and received widespread critical acclaim for its area premieres of such classic plays as ARSENIC AND OLD LACE, THE GLASS MENAGERIE, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, TIME OF YOUR LIFE and LOOK HOMEWARD ANGEL. In 1960 a new theater was built adjacent to the original theatre and the operation became year-round. In addition to main stage productions of contemporary plays and musicals, the theatre also produces children show productions during the summer and holiday season. Over the decades, the Old Log has had a substantial impact on the Twin Cities theatre scene, establishing a reputation for quality productions and featuring many fine actors and actresses who have come from around the country and gone on the famous careers in New York and Hollywood including such notable names as Nick Nolte, Loni Anderson, Lois Nettleton and Steve Zahn.
