Florentine Opera Announces Change to 2018-2019 Season

The Florentine Opera has made the strategic decision to change its previously announced production of Fidelio, scheduled for May 17 and 19, 2019, to an 85th Anniversary Celebration Concert. The performance dates will remain the same.

This season shift is the result of an internal re-alignment as the Florentine Opera works through its artistic leadership transition, following the resignation of its general director, and as the company plans for a sustainable future.

The 85th Anniversary Concert will feature audience-favorite opera stars, along with the Florentine's Baumgartner Studio Artists and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, performing legendary arias and ensembles from the past, present and future of opera in Milwaukee.

With this change, the Florentine Opera's 2018-2019 season includes:

Prince of Players by Carlisle Floyd
October 12 and 14, 2018
Uihlein Hall at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts

A modern opera set in Restoration-era England. Follow the story of Edward Kynaston, the last great male actor to play female characters on stage. You'll hear a bawdy pub song and see a famous Shakespeare play.

Con Amore: The Baumgartner Studio Artists in Concert
February 8, 9 and 10, 2019
Wilson Theater at Vogel Hall in the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts

See the next generation of great opera artists shine in this intimate and romantic show. The Baumgartner Studio Artists, along with the Jamie Breiwick Quartet, will perform a charming concert of love songs just in time for Valentine's Day.

The Coronation of Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi
March 22, 24, 30 and 31, 2019
Wilson Theater at Vogel Hall in the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts

Lust triumphs over virtue in this new and original Florentine production of one of the world's first great operas. Featuring exciting Florentine debut artists and an authentic Baroque instrument ensemble.

85th Anniversary Concert
May 17 and 19, 2019
Uilhein Hall at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts

Our 85th Anniversary Concert will feature audience-favorite opera stars, along with the Florentine's Baumgartner Studio Artists and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, performing legendary arias and ensembles from the past, present and future of opera in Milwaukee.
