Miami City Ballet Presents Program Three: A World Premiere of Brian Brooks' One Line Drawn, Jerome Robbins' The Concert (Or, The Perils Of Everybody) and More

Miami City Ballet's Program Three features the highly anticipated world premiere of One Line Drawn commissioned exclusively for the company by the Harris Theater of Music and Dance in Chicago with choreography by Brian Brooks. In addition to Brook's premiere, the Program also juxtaposes the old and the new, featuring George Balanchine's classic masterpiece Theme and Variations, with soaring music by Tchaikovsky, as well as Jerome Robbins' lighthearted The Concert (or, the Perils of Everybody), universally acclaimed as the funniest of all comic ballets.

In other upcoming news, Miami City Ballet is proudly looking ahead to performances with two world-class cultural festivals. The company will open Charleston's 42nd Spoleto Festival USA on May 25 before traveling to Paris for performances with the prestigious Les Etés de la Danse Festival, June 28 - 30.

Known for his contemporary work in dance and theater, celebrated choreographer Brian Brooks expands his adventurous collaborations with classically trained dancers in his first piece for Miami City Ballet. This new work, One Line Drawn, is conceived and choreographed by Brooks, with a commissioned score by American composer and Miami Beach native Michael Gordon.

Balanchine's Theme and Variations is classical ballet at its grandest, set in a spectacular 19th-century ballroom to the soaring music of Tchaikovsky. The cast is large, the costumes lavish, the dancing technically demanding yet joyous and serene - and with a thrilling finale.

Performing another Robbins favorite, The Concert (Or, The Perils of Everybody) is universally acclaimed as the funniest of all comic ballets. Set to Chopin's alluring piano music, The Concert is a light-hearted exploration of human relationships - and the surprising tricks the mind can play while enjoying the simple pleasures of an outdoor concert, complete with folding chairs, rain that comes and goes and an enraged pianist.

Miami City Ballet, now in its 32nd season, has been led by Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez since 2012. Lopez was recently named one of "The Most Influential People in Dance Today" by Dance Magazine.
