Ragtime, The Musical is the highlight of the end of the 100th anniversary season at Theatre Memphis in the Lohrey Theatre, June 3 - 26, 2022. Emotional and inspiring, the show is set at the dawn of a new era in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-20th-century New York. Everything is changing and anything is possible. Three distinctly American tales are woven together … a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician. United by their courage, compassion and belief, together they confront timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair … and what it means to live in America.
At the end of the year-long, celebratory 100th anniversary season of Theatre Memphis, a long-awaited black tie gala event, Puttin' on the Glitz, May 20, 2022, will be what Executive Producer Debbie Litch calls, “the party of the century”.
Theatre Memphis has announced its 2021-22 season after an abbreviated season in 2019 to accommodate renovations and having been closed for the 2020-21 season due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
In response to the guidelines from the city and county government and the Center for Disease Control, Theatre Memphis has adjusted the upcoming 2020-21 season to be in compliance regarding the COVID 19 pandemic. Two shows scheduled for 2020, The Secret Garden and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, will be moved from the first half of the 2020-21 season to the 2021-22 season.
After an abbreviated season in 2019 to accommodate renovations and expansion to add larger public spaces, upgraded concession areas, accessible lobby adjustments and more restrooms facilities, Theatre Memphis will open August 21, 2020 to begin celebrating a century of entertaining the community featuring eleven productions between two stages The 100 year milestone is one that very few community theatres can claim as continuously performing for that period of time.
