Good Theater will celebrate its 18th season of professional theater with a series of Maine premieres. The 2019-2020 season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in the company's history.

Kicking off the year in the fall will be the Maine premiere of Admissions by Joshua Harmon. Admissions won the 2018 Drama Desk and Outer Critics' Circle Awards for Best Play. Admissions played a sold-out run at Lincoln Center last year, earning rave reviews from the critics. The play is set in private boarding school and deals with the issues of diversity among college applicants. 10/2-10/27/19

Following Admissions, the company will present Boxes by Jule Selbo. Boxes premiered in Los Angeles to rave reviews and an extended run. This marks the East Coast premiere of this psychological thriller. The author, Jule Selbo, is now a Maine resident. Her writing credits include numerous films and TV shows including: Melrose Place, Touched by an Angel, Models Inc., Monsters, Tales from the Darkside and many others. 11/6-12/1/19

Popcorn Falls by James Hindman just finished its extended run off-Broadway. This charming piece is a bit like Waiting for Guffman meets Greater Tuna. Two actors play 31 characters from the bankrupt town of Popcorn Falls. The only thing that can save the town is to put on a play. They have a week to get the play produced, but they have no script and no venue. A Maine premiere!! 1/8-2/2/20

Pack of Lies by Hugh Whitemore is based on a true incident. What do you do when your best friends and neighbors turn out to be Russian spies? Scotland Yard sets up a sting operation in your house, and you are required to go about your daily business, only now you are lying to your friends who have been lying to you. Taught and relevant, this play looks at the evils of lying. Portland premiere. 2/12-3/8/20

Desperate Measures will make its Maine premiere next spring. This rollicking wild west musical is inspired by Shakespeare's Measure for Measure. The show won the Outer Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical and just closed off-Broadway after an acclaimed, sold-out run. Book and lyrics by Peter Kellogg with music by David Friedman. 3/25-4/26/20

In addition to these five main stage productions, Good Theater will offer two special events:

Who's Holiday by Matthew Lombardo is about little Cindy Lou Who from the Grinch. She's all grown up, a recovering alcoholic living in a trailer park. This very funny show is for adults only and is all in verse. Hilariously funny and a Maine premiere. 11/9-11/30/19

Murderers by Jeffrey Hatcher concerns three murderers. We know they "dunnit," but we don't know why they "dunnit." Set in a Florida retirement community, audiences get to hear their hysterical confessions. 1/11-2/1/20

Good Theater also presents its annual Broadway at Good Theater fundraising concerts. This year featuring Broadway and holiday music from the 1940s. The 1940s may be the greatest decade for both of these musical genres. 12/4-12/8/19

Season tickets will go on sale in April for the company's upcoming 18th season. Prices will remain the same as this year.
